What are the best headphones to use?

What are the best headphones to use (if that's your preference) in the studio? Especially when mixing a song down. I'm looking for some preferably around $50 dollars, but at least under $100.

Especially when mixing a song down.

You don't want to be using headphones to mix with... as a reference, sure... but not to mix with -- Article

I'm looking for some preferably around $50 dollars, but at least under $100.

Where have you EVER seen "the best" for around $50????? Especially with regard to the audio industry????????

I like Sennheiser HD280's. Comfortable, good bass output, excellent isolation $100. But- listen to the nice Blue Bear. Double checking mixes with cans at mixdown can be good, as you may hear some sorts of noise, hiss, and artifacts that don't jump out of the monitors at you. However- headphones are simply not a primary listening tool for mixing, and will generally result in mixes that sound great- on a set of headphones, but which translate badly to speakers.-Richie

I like mixing using headphones. You just have to adjust your way of thinking. I get used to headphones so that I can set the levels correctly then go listen to it in the car and it sounds a-ok.

it's not a matter of setting the levels to sound great in the headphones. I'll listen to a song in the car that I think has a good mix, then listen to the same song using headphones through my computer. then I'll more or less use that as a template to see what the levels should be on songs that I mix down using the same headphones.
