harmony Central has too many resident pompous assholes over there
to where we only have a few resident pompous assholes here LOL:D

That's exactly right! If you are an old goat like me they gang up on you like a pack of wolves. For some reason they think that older guys know less. I've probably forgotten more than most of those jerks will ever know.

There's Surf Guitar 101, if you want to learn about the fine art of instrumental surf guitar playing. They have Forums as well, but there's a lot of good information that can be found away from the forums (even if some articles are links to a forum post that was a significant enough contribution of information concerning the genre).

Harmony Central may be the biggest, but it is a long, long ways from being the best..... not even close.

95% of the stuff posted in that Amps forum is utter trash, even if it is amp related, and what's left may be good or may not, but even the good stuff there is rarely half as good as what you can find at the other forums.

The other forums there are a lot better than the Amps forum, but I still would never rely on HC as my only source of info.

I must admit, I don't frequent the Amp forum. I hang mostly in the Guitar Forum. I must behind the curve when it comes to the hip forums; I've been a member over there since 2001. I prefer a forum with a little less moderation as it allows ideas to be exchanged which would otherwise be censored. However, of the few other contributed sites it looks as if there is slim pickings when it comes to anything better than the most well known forums.

I've thought about starting one over at www.frugalguitarist.com, but don't think I want the headache of maintaining it.

If HC isn't the best, what would you say is?

Since I mainly play 7-strings, I mainly go to sevenstring.org or Jemsite.com. Both cater to all things guitar though. Jemsite is mainly an all things Ibanez site while SS.org is a lot of ERG stuff and quite a bit of the "6er" thing. Also a lot of custom guitar stuff on SS.org

Personally, I've learned a lot here. I think if you're going to be a real stickler for all of those virtues, you may need to go someplace besides the internet. There are very smart people right here, very helpful, and the assholes, well, you can just add them to your ignore list and carry on.

Well, gotta say I am a bit disapointed after my first serious foray into those forums. Maybe it's because of the subject area I am currently interested in- slide guitar, more specifically bottle-neck vs. lap positioning- but I could find NO forums on slide guitar at all. I am sure I will try again on another topic, on another day, but that one, today, was a total bust.

Here's a thought - why not start your own?

Seriously. Webhosting is cheap, and VB is, while not super-easy, something that can be picked up relatively quickly to the point where you can throw together a forum.

I mean, if there's no slide guitar discussion forums you could find, then that sort of suggests there's a gap on the net that needs to be filled, right?
