Just another guy, really.
Not dissing this one, but are there some on-line guitar forums that are best? I want to join one or two that:

Are easy to navagate thru;
Are populated by reasonable folks who understand the difference between HEAT and LIGHT, MUSIC and NOISE, INFORMATION and KNOWLEDGE, YOUTHFUL EXUBERANCE (READ: CHILDISH SHIT) and MATURITY.

Any suggestions:

Yes, leave immediately. You won't find any of that here. Besides, you're talking about guitar players aren't you?

Ultimate-Guitar.com is a great forum if you want a lot of knowledge on tubes, pedals, and gear customization/building. Just stay away from "The Pit" if you want maturity.

Sites

Guitarchaos. com, JSGUITARFORUM.com, Guitarjammers.com these seem to be pretty friendy and more mature lots of jams and backing tracks

there's been good guitar forums, but the trouble is: once guitar players find out and membership grows, those "values" you're looking for get diluted by useless information, political (etc.) 'debates', etc.

lately i've been mostly using this one, also gretschpages.com and agileguitarforums.com. i will sometimes search harmony central forums, if i'm looking for specific stuff.

i tried "les paul forums", but the snobbery is unreal. the gretsch folks would have more reason to be snobs, but they aren't.

This is a bit genre-specific, but it's worth a shot - after running www.sevenstring.org for about four years with a buddy of mine, he sold the place and we just started a new forum, www.metalguitarist.org, maybe two or three months ago. It's a metal forum, true, and it's still pretty small, but we're up to a couple hundred active members, it's a very knowledgable group, and a lot of the members (myself included) listen to a ton of stuff that isn't very metal.

Check it out. :)

Shameless plug........;)

I'll sign up later if you think your metal heads could use a little mellower aging luthier type there.:)

Ultimate-Guitar.com is about the worst guitar forum I've been to. Moderation is extremely strict (I was banned for posting advertising due to posting a link to the Rondo site) and there are so many noobs spouting off like seasoned players ganging up on those with differing opinions. No likey.

Here are other forums I frequent:

Harmony Central - the biggest and probably the best. Things move pretty fast over here though an posts can be wiped off the front page in a matter of minutes.

The Gear Page - Very good site though focused more on high end gear

Guitarists.net - A little slower moving, but some good folks over there. However, I don't like the layout.

TheStompbox.net - Somewhat slow moving, but a great site if you want to know anything about multi-fx processors.

I'm under the names wbcsound, Will Chen, or FrugalGuitarist on all these sites.

Have fun!

I have to I agree to an extent. There is good information at UG, but for every knowledgeable member, there's 20 people throwing their idiotic opinions around as fact. If you don't know better, you'll never weed your way through the bs.

I have to agree. That site alone has more guitar bullshit than all the others combined. Best avoided if you want decent info. ymmv

It's as shameless as they come, lol. All I can say in my defense is we've been live a couple months now and I still haven't mentioned it over here.

Thanks for signing up, dude - I really enjoy your input over here, I'll be glad to see a bit of it over there, as well!

This site reminds me of those ridiculous "audiophile" sites where everyone focuses way too much on gear, and basically not at all on actual music. Which is fair, as it *is* called "The Gear Page" :p

+1 on TGP. I really dig that place. And yes, the focus is on the *gear* but there are some serious monster players who are members and active posters (steve kimock and alvin youngblood heart come to mind). i never would've learned about menatone or lovekraft pedals if it weren't for TGP. saving up for that klon, too. :p

IMO, TGP is the guitar version of gearslutz.

and a +1 for TDPRI. "teles and old farts" indeed. but they're good old farts. ;)

cheers,
wade

You have to register in the Cave, if you want the most precise guitar information on the net. Or Not.:p

That's the first time I've heard anyone actually recommend harmony central since, like, 2000, dude. The biggest difference between UG as you've described it and HC is that HC has NO moderation, even when it probably should.
