ok, so I´ve got that nice little soundcard the audiophile 2496 and a mixer and I also use Live from ableton

I need a way to get two separate outs from the soundcard, being at least one stereo
In live I can route one source (let´s say the main mix) to the analogue outputs on the 2596 and the other (the loops on the library) to the s/pdif out, which I´d like to hear in an earphone or whatever

Will I need a D/A converter to achieve this ?
Are there digital earphones that i can plug directly to s/pdif? Wouldn´t that be nice?
Does Any sort of analogue sound comes out of 2496´s s/pdif?
Any other great Ideas?

And which other ways can u use that spdif I/O for?

Thanks a lot for your attention, cause uf u got till here ure a good person ;)

No such animal... you can't "hear" a digital signal - it's just data... the data has to be converted back to analog so it can be heard as a soundwave by human ears. Even if a pair of headphones had a digital input, it would still need a built-in D/A converter in it so that we could actually hear something meaningful.

No - S/PDIF is a DIGITAL signal, period.

Why yes... just the other day I was thinking of painting my office.... my wife thought that was a good idea....

Yes - dozens, I'm sure... if you feel like blowing-up the input stages on some gear, then send the S/PDIF signal to it... if the S/PDIF is via a fibre optic cable, you could try watching the light at the end and see if you can see what a 44.1 or 48kHz clock cycle looks like... that's just off the top of my head - I'm sure I could come up with more in time...

:D :D

Yeah that´s what I was thinking about, but it would probably cost some few dollars

Ah, you should go for blue colour, I think it would go well with the bear thingy
but white is also a good choice

Unfortunetly the spdif out ain´t optical, so I cant have the pleasure to look into it, i´m sure i could spend some hours doing that... I think I´ll buy a Digital/optical converter, and if I can´t find one at audioshack I´ll use a flashlight, i´m pretty fast with my fingers

damn d/as are expensive, even more because 150$ end´s up costing 350$ when the product arrives here (shipping handling and abusive international taxes...)

Oh well I´ll stay with my 2 analogue outs...

thanks for the help anyways

You can buy a TC M-300 which is a nice little reverb that does A/D and have a nice verb to boot. Its about $200.00 and you can find them used for $150.00 and less.
