Yeah, but still...you guys bicker like you're already married! YOU as a moderator should be above this and you ALSO have the ability to let it go.

Slap his hand when he gets out of line or completely pop him when he breaks the rules, your choice.

I also have some disagreements about some of his ideas but I don't posses the cred to call him on it, plus it would just make me look like I have issues.

Dude, he still has an outstanding threat to sue me for defamation of character. I don't have the ability to let that go.

...OK...here's where the original OP (me!) chimes in and redirects the thread back on point...

"So Harvey...any sign of those two 2003As yet?...just think how nicely a few sound files from a reputable guy like you would go over about now...Harvey?...you out there?..."

Don't you realize that your very participation is "moderation" of sorts?? :)

Many folks here don't know that mshilarious, (Jon O'Neill) was appointed moderator of this forum by the owners of HomeRecording.com. He is also the owner of Naiant , a microphone manufacturer. As of today's date this is not disclosed in his HomeRecording.com profile.

If you were familiar with our TOS (at this point I expect you are; for all others see the link at the bottom of every page), you would realize that there is no such requirement. In fact, members may be anonymous if they so choose. That includes manufacturers. I don't specifically choose to be anonymous, but honestly I don't really care either way, I am perfectly happy for people to know who I am, and indeed many people do. I am not here to solicit business in any way, shape, or form, and both my posts and what and where I do not post make that abundantly clear.

There is also no rule that manufacturers cannot slag each other off here. Kind of funny, you can say any rude thing you want about me (or MXL, or AEA, or JJ, whomever you like/dislike) and it's not against the rules. It's extremely gauche, but fair play. On the other hand, when you do it on GS, you risk your posting privileges. Their rule, not ours. They are a more enlightened board, right? ;)

There is also no rule that prohibits pissing matches, and importantly there is no expectation among the membership that moderators intervene to prevent them. In fact, our members tend to get angry when moderators do intervene in such matters. They prefer to duke it out, and as long as no physical threats are issued, we let them be.

Legal threats, as you might have noticed, do not constitute physical threats. So when you threatened me with a lawsuit, I did not moderate that post, nor did I attempt to have you banned. How many BBSs would tolerate a threat of legal action against their moderation team without revoking said litigant's posting privileges? Not too many, I would think. We are special :D

The only moderation that really exists here is spam, which I do vigorously enforce. As I have explained multiple times, under that rule manufacturers are not allowed to start threads promoting their products; however, they may participate in discussions about their products started by nonaffiliated members.

So it should be quite clear that this thread is entirely permitted within our TOS, therefore there has been no moderation, nor should there be any moderation. I've done an excellent job :D

Anyway, your ideas will have to stand on their merits, that goes for Dr. Bill, Dr. PhilGood, Marik, Gus, me, everybody else here.

Enjoy!

Nope, no sign of them yet. And yes, I'm still here; I read the threads at HR every few hours when I'm not in a session.

It's also worth noting that, when I first signed up here, it was probably a solid year before I even suspected he might be associated with Naiant. A number of other people talk about their/his mics, sure, but I've never seen him once advocate his product or suggest one of his mics for a particular application.

There's two ways to manage a conflict of interest. One is to be very up-front and clear that the conflict might exist, and make that disclaimer whenever discussing anything related to your product. The other, which mshilarious has chosen, is to simply prevent the conflict from ever arising. He doesn't link to his page in his profile, he never talks about his product unless specifically asked to do so, and most of his discussions on microphones I've seen him take part in have simply been related to electrical engineering.

I don't think he's handled himself inappropriately at all here, and nothing he's done with respect to his product or the products of others has been at all inappropriate. And, it's not like he's a close friend or anything - I think I've been on the other side of an argument against him a number of times now. I just don't see anything duplicitous on his part here, certainly not the giant conspiracy you're making it out to be. At the VERY least, he's obviously not using his membership here to push his product, which is what he just accused you of here.

Here's my solution for all this...

A trip to the karaoke bar, along with free beer, and free pizza.
Most any dispute then usually dissipates accordingly.
(Mic modder arm wrestling contest optional)

How about a rousing rendition of everyone here belting out "Everthing Is Beautiful In Its Own Way" (Ray Stevens)?:)

Chris

Did I do something wrong..............

Again?

Other than being too sexy for your shirt, you are good

That would get ugly really fast. I tend towards Bee Gees, Barbra Streisand, Janis, Bread. I'll do the Kate (or Cindy) parts to "Love Shack". I'd like to do Alanis, but usually I am singing to an older crowd who wouldn't appreciate the humor :drunk: I did a pretty good wasted Joe Cocker one time . . .

Oh I would lose that badly, I am not very strong. I did set my high bowling series last night though . . . 425 :) Yeah, I'm not very good at that either :o

Wait a minute, I've never modded a mic in my life. OK, I'll just kick back and watch PG vs. MJ, maybe while I sing Patsy . . . using an MXL2003A :D <-- on topic post :p

I have a whopping total of six microphones that cover everything, and two of those don't see much use. One LDC, one dynamic, one ribbon, a pair of SDCs (these get the most use as primarily I record instrumentals), and of course my trusty Green Bullet  That's fairly spartan, but double that to a dozen if you need to and get on with it already. Recording <> gear lust.

I have about twenty mikes, and most of them get called upon when I am doing live mixing.

When I'm doing recording, I regularly use just three.

Yep, that's why I had a bunch, something like 8 Beta 57/58s, including a wireless, then I'd fill in the rest with dual use mics, M201, B52, KSM141, e609, MD421, etc.

That hasn't been a secret or anything for a very long time. Jon doesn't promote his goods other than address technical questions that users have, and I believe he's differed that to PMs. He's also given away some of his schematics for FREE.
