Hi, I found a west laboratories W2000 (4x12)cabinet w/ no speakers on the side of the road. It's in good shape. A very heavy, solid cabinet. I was wondering if I put speakers in it, would it be good as a bass cabinet. What kind of speakers, ohm etc. should I use, and how does the wiring run from the input to the 4 speakers? I can't even find West Laboratories online when I google it. It looks like an older model though. Anybody ever hear of West Laboratories?

It's black with a silver grill cloth, looks a little like a SUNN if they'd made square cabs? Yeah, they're good cabs, put some decent speakers in it and stand back.

If you are on a budget then I would use speakers something like this. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=290-392
But check all of the dimensions carefully before you buy.

You should use an amp that runs around 500 to 750 watts @ 8 ohms.

To get the cabinet (all four 8 ohm speakers) to run at 8 ohms you must wire them up exactly like this.

Thanks Raw! The diagram is perfectly understandable, and I had no idea you could get speakers so cheap!

Sure thing.

On the other hand, if you will only be using the bass around the studio, most of us record them directly into a DI box/preamp. We don't even bother recording basses with an amp and mic because the results are usually either the same or worse.

But it will indeed make a decent practice cab or a stage rig.

Good luck with it.

Oh by the way, you may want to put some of this stuff inside that cabinet too. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=260-317
It helps keep the sound from building up too much inside the cab which makes it sound boxy. You can also buy it in rigid sheets at most larger Walmarts in the fabric section.
