Hello Harvey,

I just wanted to let you know that due to the review you did on Marshall mics, I just picked up a MXL-V67 (the black one)" (is it the same as the green and silver ones?) on Ebay for $135.00 I will use it for vocal work. If it sounds half as good as you said it does I will be happy !

Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us !!!

Sincerely
Pier Calacino

Thats a good deal.....I wonder why anyone in their right mind would sell that....

And if it doesnt sound good, dont blame Harvey....different voices react well with different mics....if you dont like it ill take it off your hands for $100....$125 tops....

I WONT BLAME HARVEY !

Hi Gidge,

No I wouldn't in a million years blame Harvey. I know the general rule is to always try them out before you buy, but for that price I thought I couldn't go wrong !

Pier

$135, huh? Dang that's cheap. It doesn't look half as cool as the gold/green one, but good deal. I saw the black ones going for $160 on eBay. I'm gonna have to try one some day.

The all black V67 is only sold by Mars Music, but Brent assured me that it's identical to the standard units.

Yes, and Mars Music has them on sale through May for $179 which includes the shockmount. Pretty good deal I think.

I just ordered my marshall v67 from marsmusic.com . I am really excited, now I can peer it up with my dmp-2 and have a chain thats as good as my c414/joemeek chain.

Its a lovely looking unit, and that shockmount makes it even better.

I'll let you know as soon as I get it how it stacks up.

was harvey right or was he right

all I want to do now is throw an RNC compressor in front of my v67 and dmp2.

It sounds fat. ANd the top end is like WOW

Aw hell...

Add me to the list of converted.

A few months ago I tried the 2001 (SCREEEECH!) and promptly wrote off the entire Marshall line. However, Due to Harvey's review I went to Mars and talked a buddy into letting my try out the V67. I was impressed and I just bought it. The cool thing is, it has it's own vibe going on. It doesn't sound like any of my other mid to large diaphragm condensers. It has it's own niche in my mic collection.

Hmmmm, maybe I need a stereo pair...

p.s. I had to try a few (5) before I found the one that really floated (QC?).

Tom, I don't know if the Mars version gets the same amount of QC as the standard units do. I'll ask Brent about it next time I talk to him. The two V67Gs I bought about two months apart are very similar sounding.

Now if you really wanna hear something fantastic, try talking into it from about 1/2" away, at about a 30 degree angle. That's the sound of an old big Neumann!!

I'll try it.

I have two different bands doing vocal sessions at my studio (Friction) this weekend. One band has a female lead singer and one band has a male lead vocalist and a male backup vocalist. I'll be trying the following mics;

1. AKG C12VR

2. AKG SolidTube (w/o internal pop filter and w/ a NOS telefunken 12ax7)

3. AKG C3000 (Harvey's fave :))

4. AKG C414TL

5. RCA BK11A ribbon mic

6. Nuemann U87 (rented)

7. Marshall V67

8. AT 4060 (borrowed)

I'm curious to see how the Marshall fares in this motley mic crew.

p.s. I'll be running these mics through asst. tube pre's except for my solid-state dbx 786.

Damn you guys, now I have to retract comments! I, like Tom, tried the 2001 and blew of the entire line, like alot of people do with berhinger, but last night tried the green and gold (not sure of the model) and got a good tone! Bang for buck up they rock, kinda like the yorkville monitors!

Hey guys, if it's any consolation, I trashed the line a while back, based on the 2001 too, so don't feel too bad. I'll betcha the V67G (the dreen/gold model, Wally) comes in pretty high on Tom's shootout.

Wow, there must have been a bad batch or something. I had the same experience when I took two 2001s home on trial. I put them both up in front of a speaker in the main room, and pulled up the channels.....they sounded like two different types of mics. Not even close.
Maybe I should give Marshall another try.
Any mic of Harvey's.............

o crap,

half an inch away at a 30 degree angle. I am so on that.

I want to hear that big old round sound. COOL

From 8 inches away, it sounds like that other neumann. You know, the new one which is like unreal.

MXL Mics

I have the 2001 it's not tobad I guess I got a good one?
I also have the V67 ,the Green one, the grill is reported
as being 24k Gold platted and it looks like it, and last but notl least I have the V77 tube, it's a hot one, gotta
be careful with it, it records real hot , I have to back singers off it, but she really up front in the mix.

They seem to be good Mics for the money!
