I been thinking of creating my own website instead of bringing traffic to other sights that make money off me, And using it to showcase my music and sell of course. My question is how much traffic do you need for advertisements? and how much money are they offering? this would be a big help if anyone has any expierence with this. Im tired of getting 1000 hits a month and not selling nothing all along there making money of my traffic. I dont know html either it shouldnt be that hard right?

I wouldn't think of looking for advertisers unless you're hitting at least 1-200,000 user sessions monthly. A site I used to work with sold advertising by the per-million user sessions and we still had a hard time getting advertisers due to "low hits." And advertising on an artist's site? Almost unheard of.

Setting up your own website - Great idea. It's cheap and YOU have control over the content, you can put up MP3's at whatever bitrate you want (VBR is quite nice, by the way and somewhat stream-friendly) without having them resampled by the horrible sounding algorithms of several popular freebie sites.

thats the main reason by putting your music on omds they have the right to make compilation cds ad much more. i thought if could make a forum like this and help other artist sell there cds i could boost my hits, i used 1000 hits cuz thats the minimum the sites that host my music get. i think with a descent forum and some other people checking to see if there albums are selling i could boost the hits up. how hard would it be to turn it into a music hosting site?
