Dude is exactly right...
Sadly, that is just it. I thought that forum was a listening forum, whether it be for audio quality, vocal skill, turntablist skill, spoken word, or whatever. Lots don't exactly treat it that way, but that should be those people's issue, NOT the others who wanna post whatever they're doing.
You're probably right on that, too, but it doesn't change the fact that if that's what that forum is for, that's what it should be used for. Nor does it change the fact that if all someone wants a critique on is lyrics and the track (but not the quality of the recording), they should simply say that at the giddy-up. Build it & they will come, right?
I'd be glad to talk about either (although getting anyone to drop dime on their own prod. techniques is prolly NOT gonna happen), but the snobs on here run off all the sincere new jack hip-hoppers (and everyone else new) by overloading 'em with shit that doesn't fucking matter. I'd have been easily overwhelmed if I didn't know any better (and was 15 years younger in the game).
I dunno that it matters so much if you buy a $100.00 presonus tube pre vs. a $175.00 whatever, provided you learn your gear well, particularly its' limitations & caveats. Everybody does seem to beat that drum quite a bit around here, but not nearly enuff for a newbie to feel comfy taking a chance with his $250.00 he's got to spend on a mic pre AND compressor. Sometimes, it really ain't about saving up for better (uh, different) gear, but getting fucking busy with what you can afford/acquire/use. Some things just HAVE to be replaced/upgraded, like gear, underwear & socks, women, toothbrushes, & weed. When all the gear snobs & purists started out, they too all tell stories of using whatever they could get their hands on, and finding ways to make it work for them. I bet they'd all say in retrospect that it wasn't the gear that had 'em fucked, but their lack of experience. I got expensive toys & dirt cheap ones, too, and nobody has ever said that the weak link in my stuff is the gear - they always (rightfully) blame the fucking operator for the flaws...
Did I get OT, again?!?!?!?!?

That might be part of the problem...Here, you might get entire pages on the effectiveness of a triple-cadence flow on a certain track, rating vocal performaces (weak, tight, good breath control, louder man, etc.), instrumentation, proper sampling. . .
And it all comes with a disclaimer, "Don't mind the sound quality, I know it kinda sucks."
Well, that's just it isn't it?

Maybe that's the same reason there have only been a few posts here since the change.

Who'd rather talk about the bare-minimum vocal mic so they can start posting beats already?
