Dobro, I know you have stuck with an earlier version of CEP, but I have converted to Audition 2.0. It supports ASIO and has other features that make it better for me. Downside: the mixdown facility always adds another stereo track to your session. Upside: if you don't like the mix, it is easily deleted.

FWIW, I started with Cool Edit Pro 1.2....
Me too!
I don't challenge everybody to do the same, I will only say that I love AA 2,0.
There are some things I don't like with it but in generally after I got used to it I LOVE IT.
I don't think I'm getting better sound with new version. It's only how I feel when I work with it. I love it, it's still simple software but advanced and powerful in the same time. Powerful new tool is Automation.
You can automat everything, even FX-es but if you haven't tried for a while you can't imagine how powerful tool it is.
Two monitors are absolutely recommended for this version.
It is not insecurity but once I have tried, I never go back.
Still I have old version installed on my PC. It is just shame to uninstall it.
Why should I? Let it stay.
I started to use midi lately and I do recording and editing in Cubase. When those are finished I covert them to wavs and import them to AA where all my other files are. I could do everything in Cubase but I can't turn my back to AA.
There are too many emotions.
see you

I use 1.2 for tracking, 2.1 for mixing, and AA 1.5 for ripping songs off albums.

The reason I use 1.2 for recording is because the lag/latency is minimal compared to both CEP 2.1 and AA 1.5. If I was sure that 2.0's ASIO support would eliminate that lag, I'd ante up for it in a heartbeat.

I'd like this info too!!!..I too am most interested in how the company 'dis-banded'.

I found this bit on another site:

"Some of your top cool edit stars, Malcolm Jacobson and Art Evans, not to mention Chip MacDonald have contributed heavily to reaper's development. Malcolm even writes the majority of documentation for reaper."

You can download a free demo of AA 2.0 and try it out for 30 days. Here.
That way you can tell if ASIO will improve your speed.

Enjoy!

Thanks. That's a good idea. I'm going to try out Reaper in the next couple of days as well.

Hello dobro!
I don’t doubt about your latency issue and your usage of those versions makes sense when increased latency.
What latency are you talking about? Is it 30 ms, 100ms or bigger even bigger?
Is it so big that makes your recording difficult?
I would really like to know.
Lately I started to record midi and I have experienced some latency problems in the beginning but after I found out how to do it properly the problem was gone.

Back to audio:
If latency is not too big then we can not hear it and we do our recordings as there is not any latency. After we have finished recording the software makes sure that everything is in perfect time position by moving recorded data in time for latency time-amount.
Am I right?
Can you give us some latency amounts for all three of your software?

I don’t think 30 days of trial AA 2,0 is enough time to make the right decision. I think just a few of us are in audio production 100%.
Others are working, going to school, having families etc.
For someone who will try software every single day for 4 weeks it’s more than enough, but for the rest that time is just enough to find out that they have changed some nice features or buttons, or you name it and there will be only reasons to go back to old versions.

It took me more then couple of months to find out about advantages of AA 2, 0.

Best regards
sikter
