Be careful, there are many fakes being sold today. Ebay seems to attract these types. Check the seller out very well.

Probably fake. If you're even considering going for SM57 clones, definately check out the GLS Audio ES57. They're like 30 bucks each, and they sound closer to an MD421 than an SM57. Great utility dynamics to have around.

+1 for the es-57. got one for christmas and its my main guitar amp dynamic now.

gone-- did someone here get this? i dunno if this necessarily was fake-- i've been seeing 57's for $50 pretty regularly on other messageboards from folks with good reps selling wise.

i wasnt looking for fakes but hmm those look intersting. how do they compare for miking toms and a snare compared to a 57? worse? better? or different? i'm very interested in those.

Yeah, more info on these, please. For $30 each I might just pick up 1 or 2 just cause.

Are they good on bass like a 421?

Don't laugh too hard, but the best bass cab mic I've found is a Shure 55 or 55s. I think they sound fantastic, not all low end, gets the full spectrum of the bass.

I would say that they sound MORE like a 421 than a sm-57, but not exactly like them. Basically, they have a pretty equal upper mid to hi-end response but the low mids are tuned differently. For the es-57 they are more low based mids, while the sm-57 has more response in that punchy area of mids. Basically they sound ridiculously good for $30 and yeah you should pick some up. I have yet to try it out on snare though, i'm assuming more of a dry snare sound, possibly more open than the pop you get from a 57.

They're awesome on guitar amps, and decent on snares. Between a real 57 and the ES57 on snare, I'd take the real 57. I would definately take the ES57 on a guitar cab though. I haven't tried it yet, but I bet they would be killer on horns.

very interesting.

anyone know how the GLS mic cables are? they are just so damn cheap

Pretty decent, imo but the plugs are a little tight fitting.
