Waves plugs

what waves plugins should i use on vocals and what order should i put them in. Eq, Compression.........and so on. Also does anyone use the frequency chart when mixin. if so what do u use it for.
 
whatever plugins you use...please buy them and dont use hacked versions.
 
that wasnt my question lol but anyways i bought the platinum version back in the days just to let you know

I would suggest reading the manual again then - the waves paltinum bundle is pretty decent - albiet QUITE expensive.
 
Waves "Performance Correction Pack" (PCP) is my favorite set of digital tools.

I use it on everything except lead stuff.

For that I use the Anatres "Don't worry bro, we got you covered" plug-in.


If all else fails, I use Joe Meeks "Muger, don't worry, they'll never find out you screwed up, Fuger" plug-in.

You paid so dearly for the platinum version, but you don't know how to use it ? :eek:
 
Instructions for using plugins (waves or otherwise)
1. Listen to what you have.
2. Envision what you want it to be
3. Figure out what will turn what you have into what you want it to be
4. Use that (those) plugin(s) and set them for the desired effect.

Until you define what needs to be done, you can't know what tools to use.

Well, obviously you need to throw on a compressor. Threshold at -28.64, Ratio at 12.74:1, Attack at 10.152 ms, Release at 274.196 ms.
Then you need a paremetric EQ. Boost 5.821db at 267 Hz, Q of 1.85, another boost of 9.18 db at 1237 Hz, and a high shelf at 6,487 Hz, 4.184 db.
Then you need another compressor with a sidechain from the snare drum, with the threshold at -1 and a ratio of 1.65:1. After that, you need a stereo enhancer, then a slapback delay at 400.182 ms. Oh yeah, and definitely use the frequency chart. The last thing you want to do is listen to it too close because your ears will fool you. The frequency chart will never lie!

And the comment about buying something expensive and not knowing how to use it. Give me a BREAK!!! I have seen person after person here drop big cash on expensive stuff thay have NO idea how to use! So, it is far from unprecendented!

You will want most likely an eq and a compressor on the vocal. Whether you eq first then compress, or compress first then eq really depends on which way achieves what you are after in the sound.

You just gotta experiment.

Except djclueveli gets that lesson without the belt. He should feel so lucky!

So your advise would be an EQ and compressor. How groundbreaking. You should have told him about a de-esser, or are you saving that for the advanced class?

Well, he is pretty new to all this! ;)

So Sillyhat, which way do you like it better? EQ to Compressor or Compressor to EQ?

I more times than not will compress after EQ.

I wonder why he chose Waves over the UAD-1 pack. Most folks seem to like the UAD-1 better...

There is not comparing the versatility between the two!

The UAD doesn't even have a noise gate!

Digital delay?
Flanger?
Any stereo enhancement stuff?
Pitch Shifting?
Hum/crackle/hiss removal?

There is a LOT of stuff that come in the Plantinum bundles that UAD doesn't even play with.

I certainly like UAD compressor and eq's MUCH better than Waves, but, the UAD is lacking a lot of tools.

This is why I chose Waves over the UAD-1 pack:

I had never done recording until I bought my Digi001 about 6 years ago. Since I was new to the whole scene, I surfed all the forums much like this one, but mostly the Digidesign User Conference. After much reading I DECIDED that the Waves plugs would give me "all I'd ever need"... And since I still had some cash left over from what I had budgeted to get started recording, I thought this would be money well spent... I have since added a few new plugs, some Waves, some not Waves, like Antares Auto Tune, which I added to the 'tune' of $399... I've added the VST wrapper and have picked up a few free VST plugs along the way to play around with...

SO really, I've been using Waves plugs longer than the UAD-1 has been around... AND until I'm convinced that the UAD-1 is proportionally it's dollar amount better than the Waves plugs, I'll keep on using Waves plugs...

So see, I choose the Waves plugs... and I actually BOUGHT them and NOT the UAD-1... Strangly enough, it can happen... :)

I am all for asking questions, but you have to WANT to hear the answer..........
