wave file missing clicks?

I'm trying to collaborate with someone on a recording via the internet. He's sent me a wave file of his tracks with 2 bars of clicks as an intro. I want to pull the .wav into Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and record my part on another track. I'll then mix down my part plus his intro clicks (for sync purposes) and send the resulting .wav back to him.

Problem is, when I insert his .wav in CWPA, I can't hear the clicks. I can "see" the pulses of the clicks in the wave form, and I can hear everything else going on during the intro clicks, like fingers sliding on guitar strings and amps humming in the background. As soon as the songs starts, I hear the instruments just fine. If I play the same .wav in MS Media Player or Goldwave, the clicks are there loud and clear.

Anybody know what's going on? Is CWPA interpreting the clicks as noise and filtering it out? Any advice on what to look for is appreciated.

It's a stereo file and one side is phase inverted?
Talk about a long shot...

Yeah. The only thing I can think of is that it's a stereo file and for some reason you are only getting playback on one side.

You don't happen to have the track panned Full Left or Full Right do you?

It is a stereo file. I've tried importing it with both channels on one track in CWPA and with L and R in separate tracks. Results still the same. I opened a new file for the import, so the pan should have been in the middle, but I will check that out over the weekend.

Meanwhile my friend has sent me a "click only" track, so I'll see what I can do with that. I may also see if CWPA will generate an 88 bpm click for me, that might be the quickest solution.

Thanks for the quick replies. Still interested in hearing from anyone who has had a similar experience.

You could get a percussive sample, click or otherwise, align it to the clicks on the other track, then bounce it to another track.

If you enlarge the wave form you should be pretty accurate.
