I am looking at purchasing a complete system from Wave Digital .. The Cakewalk(Ludicrous)
I am looking for a turn key no hasle easy o use but I want it to be as complete and forward looking as possible. I am not computor person butlove to record and write. I have limited time and want to hook up and play but not be limited by the resources. Money matters but that is not the issue , I wnt a fair deal and I want it to work.

Is wave the way to go and is the set up the right one. They have Pro tools and cubase also
Please let me know. It is wave Digital.com

Thx Joet

I don't think you'll be getting a "fair deal" from them(their prices seem too high)but if you'd rather pay extra to have someone do what you could do yourself, then go for it.

Joet, its a way to if you don't want to involve yourself with tweeking out a computer system. The only problem I have with their Ludicrous is the use of SCSI drives. There really is no advantage for audio but the price is much too high for SCSI. You might want to do a little research on some recent threads in this forum about what people are using and recommending and then use Wave Digital to build one for you, I noticed they have a roll your own section.

Thx
I appreciate the advice. Which software package would fit best ? They sell cubase , cakewalk and protools. are there any substanstal differences?. What about the analog to digital interface for the computer they sell. I would really appreciate an expert visitng the site and and evaluaing Quality and value with the Quarlity first. Any body ever buy anything from them? I live in a small town and the nearsest super store is a Mars . WOuld they be able to put together a turn key?
Thx

I am not a wave digital rep but scsi is the total way to go for recording wave files they are too huge for any ide hard drive to handle. I've learned this the hard way. I built my own computer and now have to upgrade the hardrive to scsi 2 level this is 80mbs. What wavedigital uses is ultra 160mbs seagate hard drives which is tops right now, yet very costly. The debate here is they do use great equipment but if you were computer savvy you could probably save 30-50% of the cost building the samething yourself, but then again they are going to back there stuff up.

by the way , saying that "*any* ide drive cannot handle wav files" is totally false.. a 7200 rpm udma66 drive will be sufficent enough for audio recording.. scsi isnt worth the extra cost for the performance gain against ide drives.. ive been at homerecording.com for a year , and i cannot name one person that is using scsi drives in their set up.. so if ide drives couldnt handle the strain , no one would be getting any recording done , and they are.. just check out the mp3 mixing clinic..

god, I use 33 drives and they sure handled my last 67-minute, 24-track project AND my buddies 45-minute 6-trackker all at once.

SHIT YOU GUYS!!!
I just did what I've always hated the most. Some dude asks a question.. and I supported nitpicking over specs. I AM A CRAPPY PERSON. poor joet even says right away that hes not a computer person......

kill me now.

ok in utter remorse... I will research this question diligently.

JOET- theyre all good for something or another.... I need to know what your needs are. AKA How many traks do you want to record? And how many at the same time... What instruments are we talking and what is your price range? Do you do MIDI? Do you have any Equipment presently, especially MICROPHONES (read-the most important part of your setup)? And you're not a computer person... how NOT are you? are you a recording person? analoge, that is?

repentantly yours,
camn

Just a word on the hard drive issue. I read in PC Magazine that IBM, in attemps to drive the little guy's out of buisness, will be coming out with a 100 GB IDE 7200 RPM drive, and sell it for less than 100 yes that's right 100 American dollars. I hope that's true. It's due within this year.

Got an IDE 13.5 gig IBM Ultra ata 66 7200 rpm; can you say bottleneck? Sorry if this is confusing this just my own experience.

HEY EDDIE N
If you can enlighten me on making my hardrive work better please do. I rather save the $600. Got a 450mhz p3, 384mg ram, 13.5 ibm hd, 48cd, 4416 scsi cdrw, motu 1224,cakewalk pa 9, acid pro1, mackie 1642 vlz pro, the paticular problem is the comp. has a hard time playing back a current file that is 20mb large what can I do?

gonzo ,

repost what you just told me as its own thread , and more people are likely to see it.. then we can start curing your problem, because you shouldnt be having a problem with only one track..

my first suggestion is to make sure the dma box is checked in the device manager for your drive..
