wave bar lagging

just got my sound card problem figured out and now im trying to do some test tracks to get the feel of my levels. my wave bar is lagging a sugnificant amount behind the time bar when i hit record. does anyone know how i can fix that or what the problem might be?

What software are you using to record with? but at playback is the sound lagging as well? if so you have latency problems with your drivers?
