I'm wondering if you guys know of anny good freeware out on the internet that can convert wav's to mp3's without losing quality. When I export my songs as an mp3, they sound very muffled.

thats just how mp3's sound.

try exporting to 192kbit or higher, instead of the "default" 128.

do you need it to be mp3 for some reason?

if youre that worried about the quality, just leave it as wav

Mp3's are butchered wav's.

you could try increasing the bit rate. It will make the file bigger but it will sound better.

Their is a free MP3 converter in apples iTunes (amongst others) and you can change the bit rate in the preferences section.

Yeah, CDex.

Been using it for years with no trouble at all. You can set the bandwith of the mp3's it produces all the way from 24kHz to 320kHz.

.

yeah. I need it in mp3 format to put it on myspace. When I listen to mp3's on othey myspace sites, they don't sound butchered.

The myspace player does something to MP3's too - I think it downconverts them or something........

i've seen some people embed xspf (a canned flash player) players in their myspace to improve the playback quality of their tracks and allow for more tracks to be posted. you need another site to host the mp3's though. it takes a minimal html coding to set up and there are a bunch of sites that give you templates to use.

Yep, that's what I do already, and that is how I know the myspace player hoses the mp3's. I have mp3's posted with a flash player, while "clients" have the exact same MP3's posted with the myspace player. When you A/B them, it is pretty obvious.......

so how would I go about embeding the code into the player? And it should make the mp3 I export from cubase sound regular?

Doesn't Cubase include an MP3 encoder? MP3s are inherently lower quality than WAVs. I doubt any freeware you find will do a better job than the imbedded encoder with Cubase (if it does come with one, that is).

What settings have you been encoding at?

if this is what you're talking about, i've only used xspf's on regular websites (like mine :) ). i imagine you could use a myspace html editor, but can you shed some light nl5?

Yeah, I've been using Cubase's encoder at the highest quality rates it will let me[ 128], however, when i put it on myspace it sounds all muffled and muddy, yet when i listen to mp3's on other myspace sites, they sound alright. i dunno if the mp3 just sounds crappy or if myspace is making it sound crappy.

try using something like cdex (like another posted suggested above w/ a link to download it) and using a higher rate like 160 or 192. if the other myspaces you're referring to are using xspf players, they will not look like the myspace player.

Well, if the MP3 you've encoded sounds okay before you put it on Myspace, then it's an issue with Myspace.

Your basic troubleshooting points should go something like this:
What does it sound like as a WAV?(playback from iTunes or WMP or whatever)
What does it sound like as an MP3? (same as above)
What does it sound like on Myspace?

Cubase allows higher bit rates, make sure you select stereo out, and you will have 128 to 320 unlocked.
