Can someone give me some names of .wav editors? I've tried the LE version of goldwave a bit. It seems to work okay, but I have no basis for comparison.

Try Cool Edit Pro, way better than Goldwave. I think you'll be very happy.

www.hitsquad.com ...Lotsa stuff there to try.

Audacity if free and cross-platform. Http://audacity.sourceforge.net

I use SonicFoundry's (now Sony) Soundforge and like it.

Wavelab is another biggie.

And you can edit single tracks in N-Track, too.... just depends on what you want to do with it.

How much does cool edit pro cost, and is it worth the price difference (assuming it is more expensive) as compared to goldwave?

I just about went ahead and threw the 40 bucks on goldwave, but then figured I ought to research it a bit...

So what's the general concensus as far as the "be all, end all" of .wav editors? Price aside (overall), and the good old "bang for your buck" category.

I would love to be able to answer your question but I haven't enough experience with some of the other wave editors mentioned above. You can't go wrong with CEP or the Sonic foundry products, but you will pay more than $40.
CEP 2.0 is not only a wave editor, it can also be used for multitracking. The latest version is about $200. Goldwave is fully functional in its demo form, so you really don't have to pay for it before you realize how limited it is. Audacity is also another one that is free but doesn't come close to CEP. I would recommend you play around with the demo versions of all the editors so that you can compare.

morindae- I thought goldwave was limited by the amount of times you could executed any editing (the free version)? I thought I remembered reading you could use it 1?? number of times, then it would pop up a nag screen and close, you could reopen it and use it some number of additional times, before,.. I don't know gremlins destroyed your hard drive and forced you into prison sex...

Are these the ramblings of an overactive imagination?

Perhaps...
