Well, I'm pretty peeved at Echo right now, so to prevent anyone else from running into this problem, I thought I'd give a heads up to anyone who might be interested in adding a Layla EXP to a Mona: all 8 channels on the Layla EXP will not work correctly. Specifically, any time there's signal on the first channel on the Layla EXP, you get pops and crackles across all 8 channels. As long as you don't use that first channel, everything works fine, which leaves you with 11 working inputs rather than the 12 you're expecting.
Echo has confirmed this to be a hardware problem after having exchanged my first Layla EXP and then spending two weeks being repeatedly told by tech support to reinstall my drivers. Finally after all that, they tried it out themselves, and discovered a hardware problem. The guy who told me about it said when a solution was found I'd get fixed up, perhaps w/ a replacement Mona. After a few weeks I e-mailed support for an update and was told there would be no fix.
I have no idea how the Layla EXP works with the Layla or any other unit, or whether the Mona has problems with any other device using the ADAT input. But, if you're thinking of putting together a Mona and a Layla EXP, you may want to reconsider.
