Warbling noise?

Hello all, and many thanks in advance to anyone who can help with this problem.

I am using a Sharp 702 minidisc recorder, an AT-822 stereo mic (with the cable that came with the manufacture--18-inch Newtrik,
stereo XLR to miniplug.) I am not using a pre-amp (yet.)

I am recording a Celtic vocal quartet in various churches, and have experimented with various distances from the mic. On the
recordings, I am hearing a high-pitched warble or flutter which is especially audible the more I increase the treble levels on playback.

I have gotten this same noise when using a different mic and cable.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Many thanks,

Síle Shigley

Try it with a mono mic, or one half of the stereo unplugged to make sure it's not a phasing problem, but other than that it sounds like bad hardware (i.e. the minidisc recorder).

I agree with dragon (ie-hardware problem)
A couple of weeks back I posted a topic referring to this very same noise...It seems that MD looses it's quality after a while..I don't know if this problem is serviceable but I'm actually going to take it back to my dealer tomorrow....Good luck on yours, and I suggest you do the same.

P.S.---Do you move your unit around alot.....Is it portable or rack/home based unit?
