Wanted: manual for Sansui WS-X1

Help! One of the kids in the 'basement band' was given a WA-X1, but no manual. A photo copy of one would work fine, so can someone help? Don't mind paying whatever it costs, cuz right now, it's a dust catcher. Thanks.

Do you mean, "SANSUI?"

If so, maybe you can raise the company on the net and get a manual. I think once, a while back, I had a Sansui multitrack but it has been long gone.

Cheers,

I had one of those about a gazillion years ago.
You might want to get it checked out by a pro shop before you spend too much time hunting for a manual. The chances of it functioning correctly are kinda thin. I think it was a short lived model made around 1987-1990. So to be working after 15 or more years is asking a bunch on a dual cassette tape transport machine.

It is SANSUI, is it not?

As I remember my unit, it was bad from the moment I opened the box. It was a good lesson in selecting vendors as I bought that unit from Bananas in CA. No help from them and, suddenly, I could never reach the salesman.

But, it was an interesting learning unit and experience.

Ya, it was a wanna be Tascam/Fostex that was almost cool.
It was unique due to the six tracks with a built in mix down deck. As I recall it had a few cheesy effects that made my ears bleed.
After they failed miserably the plastic white shell was used by another CO. for something completely different.....I just can't remember the who or what details.
It seems like it was a Roland Sequencer/beat box or something like that. mmmmm Who knows?

Yes, it should be Sansui. Since I type like a chimp, it's now Sanusi. Tried to correct the message but no luck. I'll try Sansui US, thanks.

You are right on target for the age. It looks like it's never been used but what do I know. It may have been underwater at one time but it looks good.

Underwater?

Man this just keeps getting better.
OK here's the deal.
plug it in and turn on power.
If it powers up, put a tape in each transport and push play per side.
If nothing happens donate it to someone else. The repair cost would be outrages even if you could still get parts. No schematic and no parts = death.
If tape moves try arming a track and send a simple input from a mic or guitar and see if the meters show input.
That's all I've got from this distance....I can't remember much of anything about that unit.

Thanks

Thanks, CGibson, for your help and suggestions. I'll get one of the kids to crank up the Sansui, drop in a tape, and try to record. I'll let you know if it's a keeper or if it's going to the landfill.

Mine was the same and I bought it in England, but I got it fixed and its a great unit,The things that go on them after a while are the rubber belts.I still have the unit and useing it,and I would not part with it.I have the owners manual with SMs in it,if anybody needs them, let me know..

Considering Kiltikin's only two posts were both over 3 years ago you might want to try emailing from his profile. Doubt he's been here in a while.
