thanks. if you need some tips/questions. the product is much deeper than first apparent i found when i first got it. particularly explore the editing and effects. and note how quickly you can make a quikkie drum track. i'll be happy to help.

I've been laying down tons of tracks...using hotstepper as my drum creation (there's gotta be a better way)...thx manning1....folks can argue all they want, but I'll endorse the HELL outta this product too! :) Just need a condensor mic now:)

thanks jedi.
i'm happy for you.
if you want a nice mic i would check out the CAD range.
but youll need a preamp. if you want me to suggest one i'll be happy to.
or if you need any other tips just post under a new topic.
there are a thousand tips i can give you on your new acquisition.
peace, and have lots of fun recording.

I do not agree with this! not even close, if that was the case then Pro Tools would be $100??

i'm not getting into this. lifes for having fun. not umbrage.
i have a feeling no matter what is shown you carter, you will always believe your position is right irrespective of any lab tests. but go ahead do whatever.
my final comment is the world of audio is changeing dramatically.
with new high speed computers the world of high priced proprietary solutions
will be replaced in software at very cheap prices.

Final comment?? Does this mean you're not posting anymore? ;)

I'm kidding, Manning1. I know that many of your posts are helpful to people and, as I've said repeatedly, I realize that Powertracks is a viable solution for many people who don't need everything that programs like SONAR or Cubase offer. What a lot of us have been trying to tell you is that suggesting PT to everyone regardless of their question is annoying and unhelpful.

I think your suggestion in this topic is perfectly acceptable. He's looking for a program that offers basic recording functions and PT is a good option for him. Another would be N-tracks and he could certainly consider Cakewalk's Home Studio or Guitar Tracks. Those offer upgrade paths if, in the future, he wants to get a more powerful program.

Im not always right

It's all good ;) In no disrespect twords you about the program you should not have a hissy fit because I said "It is just hard for me to believe", Ill have to download the demo to see what the hype is all about, it could be a great program. Me, Im a Pro Tools user and normally you will have to spend some bucks in order to get a quality program of that calibre. I go by the "You get what you pay for". book.

Since you ARE a computer programer I hope that you are right when you said the software will be getting cheaper!

well thats a lot friendlier carter.
i think the nub of it is. and i'll be quite frank about this as follows.
ive shown people what i do using the ptpa product. and their reaction is often "oh my goodness" why did i spend thousands of dollars only a year ago.
they have admitted to me that it is galling to see how much power is being put into software when they spent so much. and i think thats the nub of it.
markets are changing. and people find it galling - and ive even had this from seasoned engineers that a young person with this inexpensive product ,
and of course the right engineering talent and of course the right songs,
and some decent mics/pre's and of course good convertors can do so much
in terms of getting tracks down that sound good. definitely radio quality with good convertors.
in fact on another forum i frequent there is lamenting on how the affordability of the daw is impacting large studios with significant investments.
i wish you all the best, and tear it apart in the lab to your hearts content.

excellent...

Sorry to enter into this conversation late, but I just wanted to thank Manning1 and everyone else for the good advice. I am in the same boat as the member who started this thread and have found the comments (other than the arguments) very helpful.

I was wondering if anyone might be able to give me some more advice. I have been trying to decide between a standalone digital hard disk based system and a PC unit. Considering I will only be using upwards of 16 tracks, all instruments played by me, one at a time, do I really need to spend the money on a new PC, sound card, etc.? Is it worth it? Thanks a lot!

I just posted a reply in the thread you started on this topic.

As you noted, there are other threads that cover this as well. It's been oft discussed!
