Yes it can. It only has 4 preamps however. There are 4 more line inputs that you would need preamps for if using mics.

Ok it sucks to be noob

I dont think i ran into the alesis usb only the 2.0
But even the 2.0 can only record with 4 mics at the same time without the pre amp arrgghh

Bvi need to plug in all 8 and hit rec on the otherhand i can start practicing with 4lines
Thanks for contributing i already learned a lot in a few days

One more stupid question how can i tell if its the usb or usb 2.0 version?
Its not clear on ebay at all

Sryyder's suggestion of the Tascam US 1800 will probably suit your needs better with 10 preamps, 8 mic inputs, with 16 total inputs for $300.

As far as telling the difference on EBAY with the Alesis, the price should tell you. Under 100, probably only the one you don't want. Over 100, maybe the one you want. I would avoid EBAY due to the possible confusion of this item.

I would save your money til you can get an interface that will suit you in the future. Hell, I'd buy you the 1800 just to help me build the deck in my back yard for a couple days. It's not that much cash and better than wasting money on something you will grow out of quickly. :D

i checked the TASCAM but it ony has those mic inputs? (as i can see from the pics) so no normal jack inputs?
also when i have to buy it here it's 500 dollars. also there's no mixing option?
Tascam US-1800 USB-Audio-/MIDI-Interface (16-in-4) | eBay

i love the fact from the alesis that you can tune/mix it on the thing as well.
when i check the dutch version of EBAY
i see this
alesis multimix | eBay

but if i looking at it they are all the USb version not the USB 2.0? is that something you can tell?

i think i have to look for another interface...are there other threads which discussed interfaces used by forum members?
i'm just a beginner at this, would be my first interface. so i dont want to spend to much money in case i totally suck at it
but i also dont want to spend so little money which limits my option before i even start.

so an 8 channel would be more than enough but those 8 will be used for drums than so i should be able to plug in 8 mics. (or less)
and those 8 lines should be 8 different tracks within...audicity, pro tools, studio one, reaper whatever DAW i'm using.

the tascam thing it doesnt seem to fit my needs? i need buttons :-)

i could help you with your backyard though..long distance but it's help

Man, shipping costs suck huh?

The 1800 has 8 XLR inputs, 2 1/4" Instrument/line inputs (with preamps) on the front. 4 more 1/4" line inputs on the rear as well as a stereo digital input. This gives a total of 16 inputs, each to a separate channel in your DAW. And it comes with Cubase LE5. Mixing is done ITB (in the box/computer). The alesis 'mixer' can only be used while tracking. It is not a 'control' surface that you will be able to mix with after tracking. That is another type of mixer. That will be done with the mixer in Cubase or whatever DAW you choose.

All the Alesis mixer gives you is 4 preamps and some low grade effects for monitoring while you are tracking. You will outgrow this very soon IMO. It has buttons on it, but you will find them unnecessary very quickly.

XLR is a typical microphone input. The TWO 1/4" Inputs on the front are for direct 'from your guitar' input or unbalanced mic cable input (you could record two guitars direct at once this way). They have preamps to control input level. The other line inputs can be used by anything with a line output (mixer, external preamp, anything with an audio output). There are also four outputs that are used by your recording software for monitoring or sending signal from your recording software to external effects, re-amping, and whatever...

So when you coming to the states to help build my deck? lol!

i seems that this one has got combo inputs so i can insert jacks as well as the typical mic inputs so that's great!!!
i think for this price it's not to expensive and i can get myself into real homercording (this vs, line in in my computer, and hit rec in audicity) i can really do some mixing/mastering and such which i think is great fun to do

I checked the ticket prices but they cost more than your typical DAW + interface so ehhh is it ok to send a prefab deck if they exists hahaha

YES it is a good price.

I though so....now if i get the thumbs up from my wife i acutall bid on it..
never done ebay before so i would guess to bid 5 min before it's closed to be sure im'the highest bid? does that make sense :-)

i would guess to bid 5 min before it's closed to be sure im'the highest bid?

I've been beat in the last few seconds many times. Sometimes it seems there is a program out there that bids automatically. Try not to get exited until you actually win the item. :)

that would really suck enormous. i know you can set a max and probably if someone puts a bigger bet than the actual one, you will autom. bid until you reach your max. we shall see.

the tough part is that this is the only zoom r 16 second hand available

Good luck man. That unit will be a good way to get your feet wet. And you can sell it later when you want more flexibility.

Ehh cool a tough guy on internet wow, im impressed!

And who is we mr 7th post?....

Try fucking the shut up
