so,
right now i'm working with a Midiman Dman 2044,

it sounds really nice, but the input volume is fixed, and its just too quiet,
and it only works on win98 and i'm fed up with it

so i'm gonna replace it,

the only serious soundcard i worked with is the Midiman Delta 1010,
yes, i like it,
but i wonder, what other cards are out there, that are better, or like the 1010?

and it might be nice if there'd be a card that has VERY low latency (for midi, and for monitoring your recording inputs)

my budget ?
bwah.....somwhere between 300 and 700 euro ./ /

i checked out the EMU-1820 , but its got too many digital in and outs,
i just want regular 1/4" jacks... don't mind if there's a few digital i/o's,
but i don't need it.

The 1010 is good. It's got 8 analog inputs.
You'll also need a mixer or a bunch of preamps

The MOTU 828 has 8 1/4" inputs on the back plus 2 xlr inputs with mic pres on the front. It also has zero latency monitoring through the hardware. You can actually use it as a standalone mixer when not connected to the computer if yu had to. It also has all the additional digital i/o a person would probably ever want.
I like the 1010 also, the MOTU is just alot more versatile, thats why I picked it.

Oh, and I have no clue about euros to dollars, but MOTU also makes the 896, which gives you 8 pre amps in addition to the features of the 828.

latency isn't caused by your soundcard. It's a sortware/PC spec problem. The Delta 1010 is a great card.....4milliseconds latency on my system

monitoring latency IS caused by your souncard, that is to say, if you have a soundcard that does not support zero latency hardware monitoring. Some have this, some do not. It is a feature that some base part of their purchase decision on.

I only have the delta44 to compare the 828 to personally. I've never owned a 1010 so I can't say either way about it. I imagine they're awfuly close in terms of sounding good. "better" is a tough call for me for ANY soundcard except a soundblaster.

ok, very interesting,

i'm getting real interested in that Motu 828,
its simple, doesn't have all those rings and bells that i don't need,
just 8 in, 8 out, + 2 opticals.... nice...

i already worked with the Delta 1010, and yes its nice,
but it would be awesome if anyone here could compare the

Delta 1010 <--> Motu 828

----------
so what about difference in sound quality ?
and the Motu is Firewire....seems like a big advantage for live recording and stuff, but doesn't this mean there is less bandwitdh for the audio to go to the PC ? (i bet firewire is better than USB)

second.....that monitoring.....how's that on the Motu 828 ?
and i guess there is NO midi on the Motu ?

and well...the Motu 896 is a bit too expensive for me ..
i might start checking out those kinda cards in six months, but right now i still need to grow...

thanx for your help guys !

Are you using a Mac or a PC? I have used both the 1010 and the 828 within the past month. The 1010 worked fine on my PC, sucked on my Mac. The MOTU is amazing on my Mac, and I have not yet tested it on my PC (no firewire port).
I would buy the 828 in a heartbeat over the 1010 personally. The 2 pre's on it sound great. The routing is a million times easier (separate monitor, speaker, and headphone outs that can all be used simultaneously). If you use a Mac, you can use the Audiodesk software that comes with it. It has some pretty sweet plug-ins.
I'm sure the 1010 is great for a non-moron, but I definitely like the simplicity of the MOTU. It took me about 2 hours to get the 1010 working and about 5 minutes to get the MOTU working. Good luck with your decision.

There IS 1 midi in and 1 midi out on the 828. And those monitor, speaker, and headphone outs are routed through the unit itself and not your software, so it's just like using a console, no latency with your inputs.
By the way pdadda, it works great on a PC, too.

awesome !!
this might be the one for me !

but....midi in and out, lovely,
what about the midi latency ?

i got about 63 ms with my DMAN 2044 card...
maybe i can get less...but then i'll get audio problems...

i hope its better than .... should be, if it comes with asio 2.0 drivers

thanx,
