Never know what I'm going to get when I pop open one of your tunes. This one sounds like a mesh of Yes, ZZ Top, Motley Crue, AC/DC and every other classic band that I have loved at one time or another.
You are really good at crafting a dense mix that retains a lot of clarity.
I also really appreciate that your tunes just really convey that you just want to write music that you love and there is no pretentiousness or underlying intention to it.
Vocals do get a tiny bit harsh here and there. If you could figure out how to balance the clarity and whispy coolness you get with a little less high mid harshness, you would really step your game up yet again (which scares the crap out of me to be honest, because I am already in awe of the level of talent and craft you display).
Nice one (again)!
thanks man,
appreciate the comments.
it IS a dense mix.....
it took a while to get it where i wanted,
and even then,
the vocal harsh i decided was a bit necessary to get a certain clarity i wanted.
it all depends on the volume of the playback,
and of course, the quality of the playback.
eventually, i hope i get good enough to mix and balance so the translation is just right on all playback.
Nice rocked out song man. One thing that stands out for me is the crash cymbals seem really loud compared to everything else. The leads seem a bit loud on some parts as well, but
other than that it seems pretty good. Cool tune bro
thank you phil, for listening and commenting.
the cymbals, yes, this was my (at the time, 2011) current superior drummer kit...
i've since really polished the kits i'm now using, think i've found the right balances.
of course, i DID want those cymbals loud where they were,
but i've found a better selection and eq/compression scheme since then.
Im listening at work and not at my desk, but sounds really good man. Very tight sound. I might suggest bringing up the vocals just a hair. But damn cool and yes, the guitar playing and vocals smack of the 80s.. I like the bridge also. I think the use of the wah at the top is a bit overbearing and distracts just a bit from the solid intro.
hey jason,
glad you dig it...
i put that wah in there JUST to distract!!
LOL
seriously, it's supposed to slap you in the 'audio' face just before the vocal comes in.....
i think the vocals are plenty loud enough,
they work quiet in the headphones, and work thru a good set of stereo speakers jacked up!!
maybe somewhere in the middle, they lose a little translation.....
but again, a subjective call, i hate vocals that bury everything below them...
