"Walked Away", a rocker.

Ongoing theme with the last few mixes I've listened to seems to be occasional sibilance.

Otherwise a well balanced mixed.

Musically there's not a lot of interesting changes, so the break at 3:35 was welcome. That would work earlier in the song if it matters.

Song seems to drag near the end. Not enough new things being introduced, relying heavily on the prior already worn out riffs.

Fucking cool.
Is that you singing? Whoever it is hit the 80's right in the balls. Nice!

The lead licks that came in on the right at 1:07 is loud.
Mix wise it sounded fine. Song might have been a bit long?

yea, i don't know,
i'm quite interested by it!
heheh

i don't mind the sibilence, it's not enough to bother about,
almost no one else has ever mentioned it as an issue,
it's hard to make the call that it's bad enough to worry over.

it's a straightforward and simple song,
yet more going on than most typical radio-fare i hear these days,
even tho this is not the target market, for sure.....

not a progressive song,
but trying to keep within a certain style of writing,
i don't know,
can't agree with it being 'worn out' with riffs.

Right on. What about shortening the end and reprising the "all my cares just float away" bridge again at the end with a fade? That would be my re-mix, not an alteration of the original. But if I did that, I'd make the middle "all my cares" less floaty...

That's more arrangement than mixing, I guess! Sounds great in the KRK V4's

The sib doesn't sound bad but the reverb does pick it up and make it more an issue that it need be.
Nice tight rock.
The bass tone works really well in this mix.
Nice wah wah.
Cool.

hey schwarz....
yes, this is me singing, leads and backups

i don't know about 'the 80's", that is a bit confusing, not an influence per se.

tried to make the mix a more modern mix,
doesn't sound like anything from the 80's to me, but that's cool....
everybody hears something different....

i like the long format,
it stands out against 'radio-ready' formats, which i'm not really interested in.

i'm ok with losing a few folks with adhd.
:D

thanks for listening!

Sounds impeccable to me! Like all your stuff does! ;)

cheers

I can here the 80's/early 90's in there too. Vocals more than anything...but that's not a bad thing. I think its a really cool song. Vocals and harmonies sound right on. Good guitar playing. The part around 4:20 when the solo guitar kicks in, the rhythm has a really cool tone. Good job

I think the ref to 80's was in the vocal style, not the mix. Sounds like 80's vocal style to me, too. The sibilance is really noticeable at points like 1:25-1:27, but other than that it kind of fits the style: meaning when you get a lot of S and Ts together, it shows up.
Love the guitars and the performance. Lots of different riffs coming from different directions. Sounds really good.

there are a lot of cool ways this could be edited!

i like your idea too....
but as it is, it needed to be exactly as long as it was, to tell the whole story.

Cool.

yes, even tho i hear that sibilence, it does not bother me

i've been going back and looking at different (old, new) pro releases, and hear a lot of this...
sometimes it works, sometimes not,
but it seems to be a judgement call with different mixers,
as to whether or not they want the extra clarity you get with some sibilence,
versus that harsh factor...

bass was really fun to track,
this was a one-take bass line.
not FIRST take, but one take.

thanks hugo,
that's a cool thing to say

thanks for listening bruthish,
ha, never considered myself a knock-off for motley crue vocals!
heheh, nah man, it's cool, i just sing the way i sing,
can't change it, without f'in it up......

guitar tones on here are all captured with a Palmer PDI-09 right off the speaker out of a mesa boogie mark2b.

Never know what I'm going to get when I pop open one of your tunes. This one sounds like a mesh of Yes, ZZ Top, Motley Crue, AC/DC and every other classic band that I have loved at one time or another.

You are really good at crafting a dense mix that retains a lot of clarity.

I also really appreciate that your tunes just really convey that you just want to write music that you love and there is no pretentiousness or underlying intention to it.

Vocals do get a tiny bit harsh here and there. If you could figure out how to balance the clarity and whispy coolness you get with a little less high mid harshness, you would really step your game up yet again (which scares the crap out of me to be honest, because I am already in awe of the level of talent and craft you display).

Nice one (again)!

Nice rocked out song man. One thing that stands out for me is the crash cymbals seem really loud compared to everything else. The leads seem a bit loud on some parts as well, but
other than that it seems pretty good. Cool tune bro :D

Im listening at work and not at my desk, but sounds really good man. Very tight sound. I might suggest bringing up the vocals just a hair. But damn cool and yes, the guitar playing and vocals smack of the 80s.. I like the bridge also. I think the use of the wah at the top is a bit overbearing and distracts just a bit from the solid intro.

heh, i've always thought of this particular vocal performance as being more akin to Steppenwolf.
or sumptin'

it's funny, but i've people say i could have made 3 songs out of all the riffs in this one tune.
LOL.......
they are really all just variations on the main theme,
just similar ideas strung together..
they are basically all saying the same thing.

i've asked around some other spots, about the sibilence, some don't hear any at all,
i guess it's just up to the playback system.

i would like to get 'good enough' to be able to mix so i have perfect translation across all platforms,
but i'll never be rich enough to have the best gear for it.
cest la vie

thanks man,
appreciate the comments.
it IS a dense mix.....
it took a while to get it where i wanted,
and even then,
the vocal harsh i decided was a bit necessary to get a certain clarity i wanted.
it all depends on the volume of the playback,
and of course, the quality of the playback.
eventually, i hope i get good enough to mix and balance so the translation is just right on all playback.

thank you phil, for listening and commenting.
the cymbals, yes, this was my (at the time, 2011) current superior drummer kit...
i've since really polished the kits i'm now using, think i've found the right balances.
of course, i DID want those cymbals loud where they were,
but i've found a better selection and eq/compression scheme since then.

hey jason,
glad you dig it...
i put that wah in there JUST to distract!!
LOL
seriously, it's supposed to slap you in the 'audio' face just before the vocal comes in.....
i think the vocals are plenty loud enough,
they work quiet in the headphones, and work thru a good set of stereo speakers jacked up!!
maybe somewhere in the middle, they lose a little translation.....
but again, a subjective call, i hate vocals that bury everything below them...
