Daddy-O,

If you believe for one second that Bush, Cheney and their Big Oil Cronies are going to limit their drilling area in Alaska to "14 tiny acres", well, then all I can say is that you are pathetically stupid.

If you were to sell a car that you would like to get $6000 bottom line, would you not put a price sticker on if for a higher price, say $6500, to give you barganing room? That what Ma and Pa do in their store. And wouldn't you gladly take the additional $500 if it was offered to you. I thaought everbody knew this! It's not done to intimidate you it's done so both parties involved in the transaction win. You haggled for a lower price and feel that you're getting a better deal and the seller got the money he wanted for the item.

My wife leases a Saturn, which is known for its no haggle policy. The customer service there is top notch, and the reason is not because they are trying to get you to buy a car at their quoted cost. Haggling only works for those who are street smart, and many are not. I don't want to leave a music store thinking the possibility that the salesman was a shyster who scammed me into thinking I got a great deal. The ignorance of many of the salesman out there is bad enough!

This talk smacks of a Dittohead. Are you a Dittohead? I'm leaning into libertarianism as I get older. I used to listen to Rush but I got sick of him citing polls. Polls are completely meaningless.

In fact, I may take a poll to prove my point :D

Local shop: Boss EQ pedal (GE-7) $155.00
Online Store: w/ shipping $80.00

Local shop: used 1995 Gibson Stnd LP $1500.00 ( they didn't budge)
Ebay: 1996 LP Stnd $1040 (which I bought)

Now who's the greed?

I don't know where you heard 14 acres for drilling... but maybe you should look a little more closely. Time magazine did...(http://www.time.com/time/columnist/waller/article/0,9565,170983,00.html) First of all, it's 2000 acres, so you were only off by 1986 acres... or a factor of 141... Second, check out this sweet legislative mockery:
"Turns out the 2,000 acres don't have to be contiguous and only the space of the equipment touching the ground is counted. Each drilling platform can take up as little as 10 acres. The pipelines are above ground. For space purposes, the amendment counts only the ground touched by the stanchions holding up the pipe. Road widths also are conveniently left out of the space limit."

I don't know why you are bitching, but it seems to me that Bush has been given a ton of lenience by the news media. Although I think that this is because Bush has relly been a bland and boring president so far, it also probably has something to do with the fact that most media outlets are (contrary to popular belief) owned by massive, conservative organizations.

Doesn't this thread now belong in the Cave?

"By the way I don't own any foriegn made instruments, amps, tools or trucks........."

Where do you live, Daddy-O, in the fourth dimension?

Daddy-O,

Your "POLITICS" posts are SO cliche. You're not foolin' anyone. You're a phoney-baloney.

H2H, it doesnt matter what guitars you own, noone can see or hear you play anyway.

the Moderator should move this thread to the Cave.....

HEY HIXMIX

No I do not live in the fourth dimension-THE SOUTH- and DAMN proud of it, rednecks hicks, hillbillys, pickup trucks, and all!!!!

forien made stuff-------don't think so.

1954 fender deluxe, 1959 fender vibrosonic, 1957 les paul GA40 amp, 1963 gibson ES125, 1940's gretsch electromatic, 1970 telecaster, 1975 martin D-28, Craftsman, Klien, Chevy. The last time I checked they all said made in america.

Hixmix you sound just like a typical liberal wind bag, when you can't make a rational thought provoking arguement to prove you piont you turn to insults. You don't even know me but yet you try to insult me, what gives?

Big oil?--------the state and federal government make more profit on gasoline that the producers do. The federal tax is nearly 19 cents a gallon, and most state have over forty cents a gallon taxes on gasoline. The oil companies--THE ONES DOING ALL THE WORK TO MAKE GASOLINE- only pull in about 7-9 cents profit per gallon. If you guys like driving your suvs and cars without have to start a savings fund, then it is in you best itnterest to support domestic drilling and production. Unless you would rather pay OPEC and depend on volitile mid-east dictators for our fuel supply.

As far as my politics being cliche-------There aren't too many people with balls enough these days to says some of the things I say because somebody might think they are not being politicly correct. ------ I don't want my hard earned money confiscated from and given to other people. I don't want to be told what I can and can't do with my property or how to run my business. I don't want the government telling me The Bill Of Rights no longer apply, And don't want a bunch of pansy-ass left wing political activist do nothings tring to turn MY country into a socialist state.

Contray to popular belief these days none of these things make my mean spirited, racist, closed minded, ignorant, or a dittohead.
These things make me a man who is sick and tied of working my ass off day after day all the time watching the government taking 43.4% of my income away from me, while liberal agendas are destroying every ideal the nation was built on.........and yes I DO deservive the right to own a gun.

c7sus

YOU ARE WAY OVER THE FUCKING LINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And you owe me an apology big time......

All politics aside.
Yes, I am a business owner. And no my employees (three of them) are not lazy and I pay them well over minimum wage-in fact, far above the regional average for our trade ($900- $1250 a week plus ot), and I treat them like humans ought to be treated pay for their medical, life, and disability insurance and make sure that I can make the eight - tens hours a day they spend working for me as enjoyable as possible. I started my own bussiness as an electrical contractor and alarm systems provider because I wanted a beter life for myself and my family. When I opened the doors, I did it without a loan from the bank or a grant from the government and the with the small amount of money I scaped up from side jobs and saving set out to make my american dream.

Don't talk to me about taxes untill you have to match the amount your employees pay for income tax and social secuity---on top of the taxes I pay from my own income----then I pay taxes at the end of the year on any profit my business makes---oh yeah I forgot to mention the licenses fees I pay every year to a state government that seem always increase with each payment I make. And no I don't get huge tax breaks -- I can only deduct the same basic thing that you can deduct from you taxes.

Government regulation I'm speaking of has nothing to do with employment of homosexuals, or minorities. I'm talking about being fined $5000 by OSHA because one of my employees was more than four feet off of the ground without being in a five piont body harness tied to the building structure with a lanyard----he was on an eight foot step ladder in a nine foot room--clearly in no danger of a serious falling injury. There are so many stupid laws, many small businesses are regulated out of business.

On the plantation---Ive never seen a "real" plantation ans just so you know------my wife is a very beautiful black women and my brother is gay. And thank you kindly for proving one of my previos pionts........when you guys can't legitimize your arguements you start insulting people you can't force into seeing the issues you way.

That's a lot of taxes for a country that isn't a socialist state.

America is really a monarchy, IRS is our king.

Now I shall grab my ankles for the rebuttal.

The Moderator should REALLY REALLY move this to the Cave..........

I don't agree with all of Daddy-O's politics, though I don't argee with the radical left either. In any case, C7sus -- that is so uncalled for and really inapropriate. Argue all you want, but you said some fucked up things. I thought maybe you knew Daddy-o and were giving him a hard time but it is obvious you don;t so WTF?

BTW, I was really interested in this post's original intent b/c Mars/GC/Sam Ash are terrible. I decided to bycott 48th street in NYC b/c they sold crap, their salespeople don't know anything about what they sell, they are nasty and unhelpful, you have to beg them to give you attention, some 11 year old is playing fucking eruption in the room -- badly -- on 11, and I hate mullets.

I now regularly search out sole proprietorships -- with mixed results. I went in to a store the other day to try the Reverend Hellbound amp. Tried it for 20 minutes, was interested and might have bought it. I ask the owner who seemed "cool" if the price on the amp was what he was selling it for ($899 list price) and he said yes. I said I was interested and wanted to buy it and was it the real price and he said yes. the F'ing list price! Everyone I knew on the internet and elsewhere was paying $650. Unreal. Lots of examples like that, plus a crazy price for changing a p/u on my guitar. left me with a sour taste and an idea about starting a store that is better than both these places.

Anyway, if we can't get back on topic send this to the cave, or flush it down the toilet. I don't care.

What does oil have to do with buying guitars at MARS??
I digress........

Anyhoo....

I forget the whole point.

This shit belongs in the Cave...from time to time, issues will arise that do not pertain to the topic....the correct thing to do is to start a thread in the Cave, even post a link to it here......this shit has to stop...you guys take it to the Cave.....

It's funny to see attempts to keep the post on topic with all this noise...

My attempt:

To the local guy's credit, I grew up a couple of blocks from a local shop called Crown Music here in Milwaukee. They would never charge retail and would let me take a guitar out the door for half down. As long as I showed up once and a while with twenty bucks or so, they'd be happy. This was about 15 years ago. Fortunately, they're still around.

That reminds me. I should go buy something from them now that I can afford to pay full price (i.e., not half down)...

On the topic of how the little guy is supposedly usually honest and good...

I used to be one of those people who always was up for paying the extra 10 bucks to the local shop owner because I figured he'd treat me right, but I always found myself forgiving him.

At this store, Dekarr Music, in pasadena, california...

A couple years ago i had $1000 all set to buy a telecaster. I ordered it, the owner said it would be in in a week. He kept telling me, "It'll be in tommorrow..." It took over a month.

About a year ago I went in to buy a turbo rat. They sold it to me for $100 because I hadn't bothered to look up what the price should be. Bastards.

About 8 months ago I took my twin reverb in to get it checked out. They listened to it in the store, and found the buzz that came and went intermittently. They took it and said they'd call me when it was ready. They charged my $40 for diagnosing it. They said there wasn't a problem. Oh, there was a small rip in the grillcloth and a gouge in the side fo the tolex. Nice. Oh, they didn't call me. And it took 2 weeks.

The final straw was when I went in to buy a mexican fedner jazz bass. I had the money all squared away. I asked to buy a black mex fender jazz, and this jerkass "wally" who totally thinks he's hot shit tells me to show him some money. I put down the plastic and he says he can have it for me in 3 days. They charge me $50 more than guitar center would have, and said he'd call me when they got my bass in. He said if it wasn't in in 3 days, he'd drive out to corona to pick it up. The 3 days came and went and wally hadn't gone to get it. On the 5th day, I was in to buy strings and they said they had my bass. I walk up to the counter to witness them rubbing some gummy crap off the back of the headstock. The bass is bare, no tags or plastic on the pickgaurd. The strings are d'addarios, not fenders. The tone pot was scratchy and felt different than the other ones. When i got it home, i realized there were scratches all over the place and there were significant dents in the neck.

I'll never shop there again.

Moral of the story: Do not buy anything, ever, from Dekarr Music in Pasadena.

Joe

don't blame dubya

hey i'm new here but to blame the whole economy on a man who has only been in office for less than a year is down right ignorant of politics and life in general . idon't think music and politics mix personally but if you want to thats fine. as for mars i live out side of charlotte i've been to reliable music they had a great selection but if you didn't look like some big shot wannabe you got the cold shoulder ,my personal experience ,i can't speak for everybody . i dig mars but i also patronize the local establishment here in shelby .the problem i have is some things that mars offers in small quantities ihave to buy in bulk locally, they actually beat mars price on auralex foam but i had to buy 6 sheets ,wasn't practical .....just my two cents
