Wah pedal

Hey all,

Ive been listening to alot of stone roses records, and one thing i never tought i'd do is get a wah pedal. And now im killing for one. Can Anyone set me in a good direction?. I got no idea where to start. Dunlop make a few, is their any real difference?

the cheaper ones are made by dunlop, ie the cry baby. vox makes a few wahs as well which are reasonably priced. i prefer the geoff teese wahs. they're boutique wahs that last longer and sound geat, but for a bit more money. the other good one is the fulltone clyde wah. in either case, you're looking at $100 for the cheapest and as high as $200+ for the nicer boutique models. places to look include musicians friend for the vox or cry baby and music toyz or stve's music for the boutique models.
 
JD has a model 535Q I think. Has a Q controll that controls the "quackiness" (for lack of a better word!) Has treated me right for years. Vox also makes a great sounding wah.

One thing that allota Wah newbies are guilty of, is the porno technique....my fave use, is to use it just like a stompbox.....set it to a nice throaty tone and leave it alone for a while.

Wah is a guilty pleasure, as most usage is pretty cheesy, but I think we should all own one for the kicks!

Oh yeah, stay away from morleys optical wahs.
 
If you can spend the bucks give the Fulltone Clyde Wah a spin. I have one on both my practice and gig boards. They have a wide sweep, and a very "vocal" quality to them. Built like tanks too.

really why ? i tried one in a store and really liked it better than my dunlop it was the contour wah, my crybaby always has a scrathiness to it and come and goes as far as working ....i was thinking of getting the morley, but i'm interested in your reviews ...thanks
 
Sorry....I shoulda qualified that statement by saying the optical wahs by morley from years ago were not to my liking. I have no idea what they are like today. They didnt have a broad enough sweep. Maybe the new ones are better. I should know better than slagging gear that I havent used in 10 plus years.

Pots do go bad and get scratchy...... but are replacable.
 
I've been using a Morley for years. The biggest problem with them is if the light ever goes out, it's a strange size and shape and a replacement can only be got from Morley. I ended up replaceing the light socket on mine due to the fact that getting a replacement from Morley can take up to 6 months (I've got no idea why it takes so long to ship a $3 light bulb.) The new Morley digital wah pedals don't have the light/photoelectric eye control but they don't seem to have the same blusey tone either, and their encasement is a light lighter (maybe even plastic) so they might not hold up to the abuse like the older ones.

The OLD Morleys sounded really good... I have newer Dunlop now....it's okay..... I never use it anymore anyway... maybe I should.... :confused:

Sweepable Q, optical circuit (no scratchy pot), spring-loaded action returns pedal to upper position - touch the pedal, it's on, lift off your foot, it's off. Great design, great company with great after sales.

Some will argue that you can't 'half toe' it*, during solos, etc., and this is true, but it functions perfectly well for those who don't need this feature. One less thing to worry about on stage.

*never thought about it, but I wonder if the spring action can be removed, allowing for 'half toed' usage.

take no offense from my post, 129$s for anything is alot of money, if you had a bit of info i was interested ...sometimes its hard to ask a question in this virtual world without sounding like a jerk, but i meant it to be totally in the best way possible ....and about the narrow sweep i found the "snarling dogs" to be the same way but a friend of mine said it was the best one he ever used ...so what do i know ...lol... :rolleyes:
