Sorry Nez, I was trying to be kinda funny because of your comment about it having something plugged into it. I went back and read my post after lunch and realized my failed attempt at humor. I hate it when that happens. Good thing being funny aint my job huh? I succumbed to the pressure and ordered a VTB-1. I couldn't take it anymore. I bought a SP B1 a few weeks ago and it really does well for my 6 year old daughter voice. I have yet tried it with my own voice seriously. I reason for the VTB-1 purchase had more to do with it filling a gap where it added some other features I needed. Im hoping that it will help me with enhancing my bass tracking too. My Yamaha only has 2 XLR inputs and since I recently had to have channel 2 opamp replaced channel 1 and 2 sound different and adding a 3rd different preamp would be a nice addition. I don't care what it sounds like as long as its different but not nasty.

Harvey,
If you actually get to this thread again Id like to hear whats going on with the MXL 1006 with a battery I saw mentioned somewhere on the bbs. I went for a bargain on the V63M that MarsMusic had and I know that "curves" are nearly identical on paper to the 1006. Any review on the SP B1?

Sorry again nez for innapropriately trying to be funny :o

SoMm

p.s. who knows why Mixerman tracked me down here?

Wayne at MXL told me that the 1006 is basically the 2001 with the Scott Dorsey mod, and the battery function added. Alex (my son) really likes the 1006 and prefers it to the V77. I'm sure Brent Casey could add more information on that.

I recently got a C3 and have no regrets.

Yeah, I have a C3, and I love it. A bit heavy, around 600 pounds or so, and my chorus could probably use a re-build, but its a great instrument. One of these days, I might even hook up the pedals.

I spoke with nezpierce today. I told him we would send him a new one, and it is the first one I know of with an issue. My guess is the power supply. Once we know if it is the power supply, we will take care of him as we do with all of our customers.

Michael,

That's NOT good advice!!! I've seen some wall warts that put out the full live voltage to the plug if the wart overheats and the unit is badly made. No, a 9 Volt battery won't kill you, and 1 amp at 12 Volts probably won't either, but it's NEVER a good idea to test a wall powered device with a body part that you care about possibly using at some later date.
**heavy sigh** Man-oh-man-oh man.

Ya know, Harvey, I once made a post on a Gormet Cooking BBS about the best way to retreive a stuck bagel from a toaster. It involved a shallow tub of water, and a stainless steel fork.

I was similarly lectured on the dangers of electricty.

In my wildest dreams, I never thought anyone would take my "tounge-touch" post seriously. Sarcasm is, at best, difficult to convey in the written word.

If I offended anyone, my profound appologies.
If I insulted anyone's intelligence, you probably got the jest anyway.

I ooze ma tunn all de timeb ta tesk abaptors.

PS I vote power supply

Nez,

Just curioous.....

I know you have mentioned the music center in Kenosha before and I'm wondering if you just picked it up there.

I was there a week or 2 ago and asked about them and they said they had 1 in but it was for someone.

Just wondering if it was you...small world if so!

I'm sure Alan'll clear the mess up.

Well we have now had a few guys who have had some adaptor problems. We have notified the supplier about this. The VTB-1 units are fine, but we now have about 4 confirmed power supply issues.

We have FedEx'ed all of the people new supplies and are on top of this right now with the power supply vendor. I am sure we will get it worked out, but "Shit Does Happen"!!

Anyway, there is no reason to be alarmed as there are over 180 units out there that are all working fine, but we want to find out why this has happend.

I assure everyone that we will resolve any power supply problem they may have. :D

Yup, that was me. I ordered it back in December and when it came in they gave me a little bit of a grace period to pick it up. I couldn't drive down there (no time) so they shipped it up.

In fact they told me someone else was asking about it, so that must have been you . :)

small world...

Yes Alan Hyatt has been very diligent in assisting me while diagnosing the problem. I still haven't gotten to use the VTP yet but I can definitely say that Studio Projects customer service is A +.
(anyone ever get to talk to the head of AKG or Marshall when they get something out of a box that doesn't work? didn't think so....)

(mutterin' to myself) you just have to wait a little bit longer...

Alan,

I think I was part of that group. My VTB-1 didn't work initially. After beating my brain for 2 hours, I hooked up an old Alesis Nanoverb wall wart to the VTB to see if I got anything. It was a 12 volt wall wart, but not exactly the specs of the VTB. I knew I was taking a risk, but it was easier to do this confirmatory test than getting on the phone with bpmmusic (who were closed by this time) only for them to waste days of my time to tell me the same thing. After plugging in the Nanoverb power supply, I immediately saw the blue glow and was relieved that I knew what was wrong with the pre. Anyway, I had bpm call PMI to send me a new power supply, and this has been done.

So long story short, there are indeed a few issues with the power supplies. Hopefully I was 1 of only a small group who were affected.

I must be missing something here.

I buy a lot of gear every year. If I plug in the unit and it doesn't work, I call tech support to determine if it is my stupidity or a faulty unit. In the unlikely event that it is NOT my stupidity, I get an RA# and send the unit back for an exchange.

I kind of thought that's how it was supposed to be done. As far as i know, most manufacturers would prefer that you not void the warranty by fiddling with its innards or void your life insurance by intentionally licking the power supply.

I've never dealt with any reputable company that was not eager to exchange a new non-working model for a new working one, and I'm sure Studio Projects is no different. We can speculate all we want on why it isn't working, but the fact is, a customer has the right to a fully working unit right out of the box and they shouldn't have to trouble shoot, excahnge parts, or repair it themselves

If futzing with it turns you on, go ahead. I'd do the same if it was used gear. New gear? Just exchange it for one that works!

"or void your life insurance by intentionally licking the power supply"

Man, I gotta stop licking power supplies, I had no idea!
:) RD

that may have been the reason noel redding had frizzed hair....maybe jimi was having amp problems and noel licked the back of his marshall to see if he was getting juice.

:D

i know what nezpierce is going through. i pre-ordered a D1600 korg recorder from musicians friend and they would give me a ship date, then a couple of days after that date they would back it up a month. After 4 months of this shit i got the unit (finally) and in the 1st week 2 channels of phantom power went out....i wasn't about to had my recorder back over to them to keep another 4 or 5 or 18 months.

when you wait on something and finally get it...you don't want to give it back.

Well I am still waiting to hear from Nezpierce on what is happening. Yeah, we think there was a group of about 20 defective supplies that must have taken a big hit somehow because all the others are working and fine.

Anyway, we will do what ever it takes...within reason to resolve any issues :D

Exactly who are you addressing Littledog?

No one specific, Rev. And certainly not you. Just questioning the raison d'etre of the whole thread.

I still think if one gets a non-working new unit from a manufacturer you should just ship it back for an exchange instead of trying to figure out how to fix it. Do it promptly enough, and you should have a new working unit in not much longer than the time it takes to post a few complaining comments on a bulletin board. Am I outside the mainstream here?

<-----Pats da doggy on da head.

I gotta agree with littledog on this...............public venting on BBS should be a last resort tactic if you (the ventee) are getting no satisfaction from either a supplier or manufacturer.

Considering Alan's "availability" to members here, both in the forums and by PM, I find it hard to see why this thread was started........a simple PM to him would have saved bandwidth and resolved the issue.

Ld,

I'm not sure what you're talking about. Nez. clearly said that he was posing because the store wasn't open yet. I suppose he thought that with Alan's frequency around this site, he may get a response before the store opened. Are you SURE that you're not tryin' to start stuff???:D
