Okay, so I added a VST instrument to my CUbase LE4, which was Addictive Drums. I used 3 preset beats from AD; 1 for Verses, 1 Pre-Chorus, & 1 Chorus.
All were used in the same track.

Okay, now the problem. On the playback, the drums pop and make static/cracking noises. This was also the case when I exported it out as a WAV file and heard it. On the bass drum hits and some snare, it distorts. At first I thought it was too loud, but even after lowering volumes very low, it still happened. It somewhat resembles a farting sound actually. A very electronic sounding farting sound.

My Setup:

ASIO/Pre-Face= POD X3 Live ( I found it worked better than my Tascam US-144)

All Audio and files are saved on a external hard drive. Everything is closed except for my Cubase.

What Can be the Problem?!?
Thanks guys, and let me know if you have any questions to pin point this.

If the playback volume doesn't change anything, I would have to check into recording levels... Maybe the kick and snare were clipping going in...?

I tried lowering the volumes of kick and snare, and even a lower volumes it still did the same. I'll check the latency as well with that. I'll try and put in a WAV file of the drums so ya'll can hear it as well. Thanks

Okay the latency checker said everything was fine. Now here is the weird thing, I heard my recording right now, and now when I muted it the drums don't do it anymore, the guitar recording does. At first it was the other way around. The only difference is that today I wasn't using the X3 Live as the sound, but instead just headphones straight from the laptop.

This is weird, what could it be?!? Even when I would Open Addictive Drums as a VST and heard the samples, it would do the same. Now, it doesn't do that, but only on the recording of the guitar. Any suggestions guys?!? Help me out with this. I've recorded with the X3 before, and absolutely NO problems. This is very confusing and stressful.

Please help me out guys.

Hrmmm

Question: Are the pops hapenning at the SAME spot each time when you play back the wav that you exported???? (I know the problem is also in your software, but I'm just curious.)

If the incident is random ...
I might be way off here, but you're desperate right?

I have seen the situation where a background process like a virus scanner steals some of the CPU away from your recording software. If the CPU is too busy, then you might hear all sorts of pops and clicks. Do a CTRL+ALT+DELETE (on a pc) and look at the CPU usage to see if that's a problem.

Check our ASIO driver buffer size. Make certain that it's over 256 samples for starters. (Experiement with lower values if you wish.)

Ensure that your system is actually using the ASIO driver, and not MME, or something else.

Of course, this doesn't explain why you have pops in your WAV file.
