VS1824 and Midi....HELP!

I have a VS1824 and I usually just record through a regular in/output. Well, My Casio electric piano only has Midi connections so now I have to learn how to use Midi. I just spent about 20 minutes reading through my owner's manual only to realize that I was already confused after the first paragraph in the Midi section!
So my question...Can anyone who uses Midi with a Roland workstation give me some advice on where the hell to start???
 
What exactly are you trying to do? Record through midi?
Be more specific and i'll try to help you:)
