VR800 Virtual Tracks?

Ive read on the internet (including the fostex vr800 site) that the VR800 can record 16 additional tracks somehow (giving a total of 24), but i cant quite see how this works as the device only has 8in8out ADAT. Even if these tracks are virtual, how do i use them????
