does anyone thing that voxengo products are better than waves products?

No. They use way more CPU and most of the plugins aren't all that great. I use Voxformer for getting a half-decent vocal sound for a rough mix, but that's about it.

I think if you're using them mildly, either will do just fine. They're both well-built from what I've seen. Which effects specifically are you talking about? The Voxengo Gliss EQ is the only one I own personally and I really like it.

Don't overlook the PSP Master Q, Vintage Warmer and Mastering compressor. They're really nice too.

If you've got any budget at all, the UAD-1 card really can't be beat for the price. If you're looking to pirate them, don't bring it up here - it won't work out well for ya. BTW: The price margin between Voxengo and Waves should be the deciding factor.

I use Voxengo products, namely; Sonformer, CurveEQ, Gliss EQ and Pristine Space. They are fine products and represent some of the best that independent developers are offering. I've read very complementary statements from highly regarded mix and mastering engineers, particularly with regards to Soniformer. You can only benefit from trying out the demos. But be prepared to spend some time with Soniformer; it's a bit special and reveals its' secrets slowly. Just know that you can control all compressor parameters plus stereo width, panning, and output gain independenly over 52 frequency bands.

I won't pretend to know what Waves sounds like. I believe they employ that viral copy protection which I won't let near my machine.

I've not used UAD either, but it must be good given all the hype.

I like Voxengo's plugs quite a lot. Are they better than Waves? They are different, and have unique approaches to things where Waves stays more in the normal approach. I expect Waves has more money to put into developing and refining it's plugs, and they are very good at it. They are pricey, but that's the space they play in, and no one would buy them if they didn't deliver the quality that goes with the price. On the other hand, Voxengo plugs are very good quality, take a much fresher approach, and are reasonably priced. That's a winning combo for me, but some may not "get" the voxengo approach.

in tests on psw elephant introduced a bit less distortion than the L2, this was represented visually (the test was looking for distortion on sine waves i believe and was represented to the forum visually)...... but some people said that they could hear the difference also, and liked elephant better.

and waaaaaaay cheaper.
this means nothing about any of their other products.

i use and like waves plugs very much, but they are overly expensive and i'm annoyed by the new need for the usb key.

(don't know if you need a usb key for voxengo, i have a mac and cannot use them personally)

Soniformer and Gliss EQ are really great. I even use Warmifier on a rare occasion. I bought a UAD card, but I still use my Voxengo plugs just as much. Being able to download demos is a huge plus. You really can get a feel before you buy, and they are not expensive.
