Ok, whats a better recording setup?

Going directly into my tube mic preamp with the VOX Tonelab OR mic up the amp (i have the Tonelab running through my 100W Fender solid state amp with 1 X 12 which sounds really good live) with a Sennheiser E609S Silver mic going through the tube preamp into my Mbox?

Anyone have experience with this?

If you have the channels for it, I would say do both. Then after you're done recording, you can decide what sounds best. All direct signal, all mic'ed signal, or a blend of both. You will have somewhat different sounds from the two methods, as the the mic'ed path introduces the characteristics of amp, speaker, mic, and mic placement. I think a blend of the two would be really cool. The mic should give a little ambience to the sound, as well as capture the lows, while the direct will bring out the mid and high freqencies more.

Well, i recorded them both in stereo and the mic'ed up version sounded much crisper and clearer recording punk sounding bar chords. im sticking with the real mics.
