Vox 4 -8" Cambridge Pathfinder

I'm not sure of the name of this amp but I tried the four 8" speaker version at GC and fell in love with it. It had that 60's jangle sound like I've not heard before in the cost effective camp. I did not notice any noise or problems with it at the store when I test drove it and no...I did not scoop it and bring it home. The four 8" speaker cab version is worth a check out. They are not plentiful however. If you're lucky you may spot one at your local outlet. That one at GC did not last long. It was gone when I went back.
There was some magic goin with those four eights movin air. Both the reverb and tremelo sounded great too. These are great clean 60's sounding amps but the built in distortion is a thumbs down.

They were very limited production (I've heard a total of 300 units) and they're long gone. They turn up on eBay from time to time. For some reason, all the ones I've seen pictures of have saggy grillcloth on the cabs. What that's all about, I can't guess. It's a special grillcloth just for that model, I think, though it might be the same as on some of the bass amps.

I suspect that the amps for the heads in those were probably "selected."

It's gone. I took it back to GC and dumped it. There was one more there, boxed, but it was obviously a return also, so I blew it off.

Very disappointing episode.

Caveat emptor! :(

i love my pathfinder 15R. it's quiet, has tone to die for, the wonderful tremolo goes from subtle to almost wah, the gain is somewhat useful in small doses and the reverb is worth the price of admission on its own.

i'm sorry some of you have gotten bum units. :( really, these amps are worth giving another shot and finding a good one. they should be charging twice what they are for this amp.

i've gigged with mine, albeit without a drummer. i hooked it up to a 4x10 fender cabinet and it powered it more than amply.....although with a drummer, i think it might be a little underpowered. this amp veritably SCREAMS though a 1x12--so keep that in mind. the 8in speaker sounds fine, but this amp sounds made for a single 12......which almost begs to question why there's not a 1x12 version in the first place.

however, if your goal (as you stated) was to mic it and run it through FOH, you really can't go wrong. don't bother with the line out......hang a senn 609 over the front of this thing and forget about it.

cheers,
wade

I have several Vox amps, including a 1966 British AC-10. I picked up a Pathfinder 15R a few years ago and haven't had a bit of trouble. A couple of my sons and their friends seem to pick this one first over the other Vox and Fender amps we have in the house.

Original poster: Sugest you invest about $250 and get the newer 30-watt Vox modeling amp (chrome metal grille). It should be louder and give you lots more sound choices (11 different amp emulations).
