any ac30 owners out there? i just got the latest reissue, the ac30cc. this thing sounds awesome! i also got the 2x12 ext cab. anyone played an original? how do you think the custom classic holds up? reveiws seem to think it is pretty close.

The speakers make a lot of that tone. The Alnico Blue Bulldog is totally worth putting in there. I've heard them both and as good as an AC-30 is without them, oh man...

Amp sounds great til ya get to high volumes (probably higher than most bands but mine is a study in deaf) then it gets middy and weak

I haven't noticed this. I love my ac30cc head, I run it thru a Marshall 1960a and it just sounds mean as can be. The clean isn't the greatest but the overdrive/distortion is buttery as can be.

That's kind of odd, usually people say the opposite. Out of curiousity, what guitar are you playing through it? (Sidenote: aside from the reliability problems, it seems that the AC 50 really did them both quite well).

My first thought when I read BigKenny's post was maybe it's the speaker in the combo? Might be why you havent noticed, if you are running yours thru a cab....

esp ec1000, gisbon les paul studio, and a Dillion PRS copy. Same results with all three, clean channels just too dirty when cranked even a little but the distortion/overdrive just kicks ass. A band I record was just in a lay some guitar stuff down and he always swore by my Mesa DC-3. I told him to plug into the ac30, spent about 20 seconds twisting some knobs and told him to play. It took about 3 seconds for a huge ass smile to appear on his face, he's buying one. I tell you what does have a good clean though, Epi VJ head.
