Which is your choice?

I am just looking for something that compares to the Korg Trition, or if that's out of the question then the Roland 1010.

Reason is a whole studio. Synths, samplers, drum machine, effects etc...:)

Talkin about software samplers, I am also in for one. Wonder if Gigastudio is easy to use.... Have you heard the Garritan Orchestra samples???? That collection is pretty amazing, and for $900 you get 16 cds. A bit steep but listen to the musical compositions here:
http://www.garritan.com

You won´t believe these compositions are made out of samples, blew my mind.......;)

GigaStudio

Alonso,

I would seriously suggest you spend some time reading the GigaStudio bulletin boards at NorthernSounds and TASCAM before you launch into purchasing Giga.

Yes, awesome samples. :)

Yes, VERY expensive libraries. :(

Major, major headaches if you aren't running the right hardware or OS.

Save yourself a lot of heartache. Check out the BBs first.

What would be the right software and OS for a smooth running Gigastudio? What experiences do you have or know? What sampler would you recommend?

I would just like to know what advantages Gigastudio has over Kontakt now that Kontakt will offer hard disk streaming.

Alonso,

Did you ever hear EastWest Samples yet??

Check it out here....

First listen to "Voices Of Apocalypse".

Here. Samples

Giga vs Kontakt

F. Lai,

I would just like to know what advantages Gigastudio has over Kontakt now that Kontakt will offer hard disk streaming.

Mmm. Good question. Very good question. :)

I think if you'd forked out a whole heap of money for Giga you'd be well and truly peeved if you found out Kontakt was just as capable for a lot less money.

The forums at Northern Sounds and Tascam are never short of people struggling with GigaStudio. When Giga runs properly, it's obviously an awesome product. Getting to run properly seems to me to be more trouble than it's worth. You need buckets of RAM, some very grunty hardware and a high-end soundcard to derive the full benefits of GS. The chip set and Windows version come into play as well.

This thread from the Tascam BB may be of some help:

I've been using VirtualSampler, and that too will stream from the HD - but not as efficiently as GS.

I think you should consider VS3 when it's finally released. You can check out the Beta version at www.vsampler3.com But don't expect it to be perfect at this time, however it will give you an idea of its potential.

VS will also import soundfont files.

Ok, I'm gonna try to get Halion for $215, Should I do it?

I tried the demo version of Kontakt and did not see what was so special about it... I tried Giga, didn't like that either, Reason is not what I'm looking for (so I finally figured out), I'm looking for a VST Instrument so I can use it with my audio tracks though Cubase SX. What I have in mind is Halion, Sampletank, and/or Sonic Synth with Sampletank LE.

Does anyone know if Halion is cheesy?? I am thinking that Sampletank XL is pretty good but also expensive, Sonic Synth is cheaper then Sampletank XL but is it better then Halion???

Help!!

this is a very old post, last post before yours was by me on October 13 LOL

Alsonso, can't do it that way(I'm one of those guys), however it will be keept private as you wished...

:D

I finally bought it off of ebay for a total of $211, I'll let you know how it is....

Don't know if you 've already bought however, here is my two cents...

If you want to create new synth sounds, then Reaktor, Kontakt, etc are the way to go. I am a songwriter by nature but want to get to a sound fast for keyboard ambience. I have tried most of these and find myself spending an inordinate amount of time tweaking the software trying to find the right sound to fit the tune.

A good hardware sound module cannot be underestimated for getting a large variety of sounds. It is always faster to get to a bank of predefined sounds and tweak them a little rather than to have to do the same in software.

I am a guitar guy by nature, however, a good keyboardist might have a different opinion. I just don't like spending hours and hours in software creating something from scratch.

Buy a sound module, it is faster in the creating process. The JV1010 is good but you might want to try the new XV2020 which is the next generation.

I thank you for that info. It was very helpful because I was contemplating getting one of those software items, but I don't want to spend the time to figure out my own sounds....

Get Sonic Synth....it's the best purchase I've ever made for my studio set-up. It gives you the ease of use of a hardware sound module, but because size isn't a limiting factor with the samples, the quality is the best out there - better than any keyboard you can buy. It's got loads of patches ranging from strings, pianos etc.. to synth pads and leads. You don't have to tweak the patches at all to get great sounds, but if you want to, the Sampletank interface lets you do that too! The DSP on it are excellent.

It would amaze me if anyone would look at a hardware sound module again after trying it. I can't sing it's praises enough.

Sorry if this post is a little late btw! :)

I would argue that to a discerning ear, there is still an albeit small difference in sound compared to a hardware synth. It might sound good, but I guarantee a nord lead va, or a k2xxx rompler (among others) sound better. Not to mention both offer unparalleled control capability...
