Hi,
I'm wondering how this old machine really works. It has only one head and so, plays full track tapes at 15ips and 30ips (and it's currently in working order, at least for the playback mode).
The machine is mainly operated using a 3-position lever right to the pinch roller (follow link for picture).
The stick originally screwed is broken and rebuilt. As printed in German around this lever:
- the LEFT position corresponds to FF and REV
- the CENTER position is for STOP
- the RIGHT position correponds to PLAY and REC.
The first question is how you decide which of the two options you want to use.
The next quesiton is how this machine can ever record a tape with only ONE single head. The only option that is see is a combined play/rec head, thus requiring blank tapes for recording (like the 1950 portable EMI recorder).
The other question is the use of the two adjustments on one of the chassis (see picture). They look like bias settings. Is this meant to separate residual bias from the audio signal ?
And amazingly, the take-up reel rotates clockwise, so you play a tape with oxide out, and it gets spooled with oxide in...

Thanks !
