Hi, I was wondering if anyone out there might have some advice on a home PC recording package such as the e-MU 1820. I'll be using it to record voiceovers for commercials and such and was also wondering what additional equipment (other than a mic and headphones/monitors) I might need to purchase. Will I need to buy some type of compressor too? Again, I will just be recording vocal tracks and putting some background music behind it.

Also, if anyone is familiar with the 1820 package, would I be able to sample background music with the software included?

Oh yeah, and if you do have any suggestions on a good 200-300 dollar microphone, I'm all ears!

Thanks for your help!

Hi Rich,

Welcome to the board.

Here are a few thoughts. Although I'm no expert at it.

A large diaphram condenser mic. There are plenty you can get less than $200 that will do just fine. I currently use an MXL and a NADY which serve my purposes just fine. (Both less than $100) Although if this is commercial grade you'll probably want to step up.

A preamp or sound card with phantom power.

From what I hear on this board the RNC - really nice compressor for about $175 is the best deal anywhere.

Hope that helps some,
larry
