When i try to make them louder there too loud and clip and make the level bar go up to the red mark. when i make them lower you can't hear them. i tried eq but i don't know the right settings. and i need some compressor settings thanks! Also when i want to adlib over the chorus how do i get the lead to stand out over the chorus without being too loud?

You use the settings you need -- Not the settings someone tells you (which no one could even hazard a guess at without hearing the vocal alone and in the context of the mix).

This is a classic case of needing to learn your tools...

Uhm if i knew how to use them i wouldn't be asking...:p

use a simple compressor. start with these ideas, hopefully they do the trick:

1. lower the "threshold" until you are reading at least 3dB of compression during the loudest parts. more is fine too, experiment. but remember, the compressor does nothing at all until you've exceeded the threshold. depending on yr compressor, you may need to switch yr meter to reading gain reduction instead of output.

2. start with a fairly fast attack. in other words, set it fully to the left, then up a notch or two. think 9 o'clock ish.

3. for release, it should be slower than attack. maybe start around 11 o'clock.

4. then set the output for proper level in the mix and give a listen. hopefully things even out a bit. but remember too that the above settings depend on the style of the vocal. ie, a crooner who holds a lot of notes vs a rapper who spits out words rapid fire. the best way to understand how a compressor works is to listen in real time while you move the attack and release around. you'll get it pretty quick as long as the threshold has been lowered enough to make the compressor start to work.

best of luck!

True - I'll tell you what I use and the settings but it's very likely you don't have the same software.

Hey can i post my song here and you guys tell me how it sounds?

The MP3 Clinic is there just for that purpose.

hahaha :laughings:

Add a compressor, and mess around with it. Start with a fast attack, and a slow release. Next, experiment with the threshold around -10 db/ -20 db, and then experiment with the ratio...sounds like you need heavier compression, so I'd recommend a higher ratio than 2:1.

This will lower your sound even more, however, it smooths it out so you can adjust the gain back up to where it's sitting nicely in the mix.

another thing is just to start your mix over again with the vocals in mind, so mix everything else AROUND your vocals.

make a gain on the EQ at 5.3672Hz

no thanks necessary, I accept paypal :)

yeah stick it up in the MP3 clinic someone may help...if it hip hop/rap then try their forum

ido1957,

Very nice plugin. I use the same one on vocals when needed.
