find a used AT 3035...i've seen them being sold here and other places for as little as $100

i got a brand new one on ebay for something like 130 with shipping. The AT 3035 is a decent mic for vocals.

not really the best choice...but the Musicians friend stupid deal of the day is an MXL 909 for $49......

Honestly? I would rather use a Shure SM57 or even a Beta 57. A used AT3035 .

Dynamics don't usually do to well for Rap and R&B vocals.

The V67 is good as well as the previously mentioned condensers. I would also suggest Sterling Audio ST-55 and Groove Tubes GT-57.

I dont rap...but I also like a 57 on my voice better than a 3035....I was pretty dissappointed in my 3035....I didnt hang onto it long....the only think I ever really LIKED it on was a bass cab...

It seems to me that the low to mid priced AT line only works for a select few people - and for those people it works VERY well.

I remember going through about 3 or 4 very expensive mics (at somebody else's studio cuz I can't afford that shit) for my brother's vocals until we stumbled upon a mid priced AT (it was so long ago I can't remember what model). It was like magic...

There's quite a few of them in this price range

the Audio technica 2XXX series seems to do well
the MXL line, such as V67G ect... also do pretty well
the Project Studio series like the B1 seems to be doing well too
the ADK series seems ok
the CAD mic like the M177 falls in the range
the Shure SM58 and the Senn E835 also falls under here. Take your pick, i have the CAD and the Shure SM58, they seems ok to me. but the rest listed has it's followers.

I know that the budget was or is at $125....and there are a few mics that MIGHT work in that range....however...waiting 2 or 3 or 4 more weeks and trying to save a little more money would be worth the wait. Just by saving an extra $75, you can step up to a whole new line of mics....I got AT4040 my AT4040 used for $175 and I must say it was one of the best purchases that I made. Another mic that I bought used that got a lot of use was a Studio Projects C1....I think I gave $145. I think there is currently an AT4040 for under $200 in the free ads section of the board....at least it was there within the past 2 weeks or so...

Aftering having done this myself, I will advise against it now....Dont buy a mic that you are not really happy with just because you want something that looks cool, or just because it is slightly better than what you have now... My first condenser was an MXL 990 and damn did it look cool...to me anyway....looking back, I cant help but wonder what I was thinking...
