Vocal mic

Can I assume that I will not be able to find a vocal mic under $100 that would compare to the AKG 1000 CE, not knowing what the specific use the AKG is intended for? I tried the Marshal MXL 770 and didn't like it, too much ambient room echo plus it was tinny. The AKG was drier. I'm borrowing the AKG so that's why I may need to buy my own mic.

Is that the same as the AKG C1000s? If so, I certainly think you could find a better mic for most applications...though I don't think you will find something comparable (few mics sound exactly like it, which is very probably a good thing). the C1000s (pencil condensor mic with a battery) is occasionally used for acoustic guitar, vocals, and location miking (because of the batter power thing).

It would help to know what type of vocal you are recording (male/female, vocal style, range, music type). Most mics sound better on certain voices than others. If the 1000 sounds good on your voice, maybe that's the mic you should get.

Other inexpensive mics to consider:

Studio Projects B-1
MXL V67

Shure SM57/58 (a dynamic mic may suit your needs better if room noise is a problem)
Sennheiser e835

If you want less room you need to get closer to the mic, or put some blankets on mic stands and try to dampen the acoustic a bit.

Have a look at the Sennheiser e835, the SP B1 and perhaps the SE Electronics SE220A. I have the SE2200 (not 'A' version) and am very happy with it, but I haven't tried it against a B1.

I finally sold my C1000S recently ... not a good mic and didn't get one good vocal or acoustic guitar track out of it. Had a little luck with snare and guitar cab, but even then ... no.

I just bought the V67G and I will hopefully get it sometime next week.
After some testing I'll post my opinion on it.

That's $100 more than what I paid for the MXL V67G with a shock mount, a ring mount, and 20' XLR cable (I could care less about the cable).
I'm not saying it's not worth it, and if I could hold off from buying stuff form more than one month I would be able to afford it.
I'll see how this goes and I'll tell you what I think.

Check out the Audio-Technica AT2020 and let us know what you think. Its priced at 100 bucks and mentions vocals in the ad. Just came out October 2004.

Yeah I got GAS. I'm trying to stay away from looking at anything new.
However, it's hard to stay away from crack when you hangout with crack-addicts.
This forum really does nothing to help me with my GAS except helping me get more expensive stuff. I'm also lacking some equipment like
Monitors - Well I got some by they are Altec Lasing PC speakers
Headphones - a nice set I have a set of MoreMe (which work for now)
Bass Traps
After I fufilled the list above, I'm sure I would have added a few items to the list.
