:D Yo to All:}

Need opinions of my knowledgeable colleagues.

Between the AKG 4000 and the Shure KSM 32, which is best for vocals?

Thanks in advance as I'm sure your expertise will help.

What's the best pants size, 36W/32L or 40W/30L? Depends on who's wearing them. Vocal mics are like shoes. Cheap ones that fit are better than expensive ones that don't. Sorry, dude. No one can answer your question, except you, when you're standing in front of the mic.-Richie

Haven't tried either, however, be sure to include the Studio Projects T3 in your shortlist when trying them out.

If you HAD to choose between the original two, I suspect you'd probably end up with the Shure. Like Richie said though, much better to try directly.

Yo Richie:

Your analogy is incongruous. You don't wear mics around your waist--well, maybe you do?

Both mics I mentioned are good mics; I was just looking for a voice in the miasma of mics that might know from experiencing the mics. But all I received is lixiviated suggestions.

But, thank you one and all. I can get any mic sent to me to try. I was trying to avoid sending them all back.

Keep your cables from circles as it slows down the flow of electricity.

Green Hornet   :p :p :D :D

Between the 4 of you, we've got almost 15,000 posts...

GHornet, you can get any mic sent to you to try? that's a pretty good deal. What kind of voice do you have and what are you trying to achieve that you haven't achieved before with other mics? Isn't the Shure more "neutral"/"transparent". I don't know how the 4000 sounds, nor have I read much of anything about it. I just know it's probably better than a 3000b.

Chessparov, I tried out the T3, I liked it alright on voice and it was pretty good on acoustic, but I liked something else better at the time, but I think I might give it another chance now that I have better preamps.

:D Thanks for the input.

My voice? I only do comedy stuff myself. If I had to make a living on my voice, I'd be in the "Begging" forum.

I am doing a project with a professional and just wanted to learn from anyone who has used these mics. I agree, the AKG4000 is better than the 3000.

My sales rep told me yesterday he would send me all three mics to try and I could pick the one I liked best. Pretty cool. But, I'm not in a hurry. I can still crank up my Elvis mic in a pinch. :p

That is pretty cool.

Tell your sales rep I'm having trouble deciding whether I like blondes, brunettes or redheads.

I haven't heard the 4000. I own the KSM32 and find it a little blah for vocals.
YMMV

Blessings, Terry
