i was wonderin if this was somethin anyone does or do you think it causes to much of a difference to the point it makes the track unenjoyable....i tried the one in waves and it just makes it sound like a bad overdub to me and the one in izotope doesnt seems to do much at all....any feed on this and maybe another way to get vocal excitement if its needed would be appreciated

You might be interested in THIS ARTICLE. It's all worth reading, but the 4th paragraph "The Motown 1960's Exciting Compressor" might really get your interest.

I have an aphex aural exciter which (I think & I'm prepared for correction) is pretty much the same as an exciter & it makes an awesome difference to the voice & more recently my clean electric rhythm to give it a little more "spank"

admittedly this an outboard piece of equipment & the fact that it's analog in & out adds a bit of hiss. The software versions should be awesome & it's something that can be really nasty if overdone

I don't use or apply any exciters in my vocals. mainly, i use the "Q" filter in cubase to smoothen out the highs and lows.

Do you have Ozone 3? When I had Ozone 1 the exciter didn't work for some reason either. Then when I upgraded it worked but it can easily cause ear fatigue. I've never added it to vocals only bass guit when some definition was lacking that eq couldn't fix. Maybe the voc are buried in the mix. But, as always, do what you want. It's your music or mix.

i will try out all of the suggestions n se which works best...thanks for the help

The Aphex IS an exciter. If fact it was the original one, that's why they call these things "exciters".

Unless you are suffering from some equipment failure that is making your tracks dull, you don't need one. And even then, you would be better off taking the money and fixing the problem instead of trying to cover it up.

right on I was meaning the scintilator

& it's a piece of equipment I've had for ages without using & only recently started getting into

& dude I never cover up if I have anything to do with the process. Tools are there for using "in the right place"
