If the person can't even sing in tune, what's the point of even recording them?

Because they pay you and you have to pay the bills.

you know...

Same reason they use body doubles in movies.

First, if one wants to use the success of The New Mousketeers as the standard by which to judge the validity of something, I'll let go by without further comment, Nothing I could say could be any more damning than that argument itself is.

As far as real clients for real engineers like us, I have never known a client that sang out of tune that *knew* they sang out of tune. Such clients have no need or desire for pitch correction.

If someone knows they are singing flat and wants me to correct their vocals synthetically, then my original question probably should be rephrased, "If someone knows they they cant sing, what's the point of stepping in front of the microphone?"

I can't sing for shit myself, but at least I'm smart enough not to get on stage or step in front of a hot mic.

If you can't sing, stick to karaoke if you absolutely have to prove it to others.

Oh, great, and have them ruin MY night out :(

:D

yikes. i'm with glen. my company builds schools for money. If someone comes to us with a horrible set of plans and asks us to build their school, we give them an exhaustive list of everything that needs to be corrected before we waster our time, and their money.

Building a shitty school well is called "A bad job"

Recording shitty stuff well is still "a bad job", but what do i know, i just build schools :)

A good example of over using the Antares Autotune:

Cher's song a few years back (that do you believe in life after love) that you all loved! You can actually hear the hardware working if you listen.

I think they actually made it sound that way on purpose (for effect).

Had no opinion on the song. Just letting you know that is an unusual (too much) amount of Antares.

Taht wasn't even auto-tune, it was a vocorder. it sounds like auto tune but it isn't.

regardless, it was terrible and every song that was released since that used that technique was a putrid pile of filth.

We're still talking about cher right? :)
