I just bought a 15" Powerbook G4 (1.25 ghz, 80 GB, 512 RAM). I want to be able to record my music on it. I used an 8 track digital BOSS BR-8, but I have never recorded on computers. I am a guitarist, and I play piano a little, and I need to be as compact as possible. I have been looking at an M-Audio Oxygen or Ozone for that reason. I'm lost as to what software to buy? I want to be able to record guitar, vocals, and have access to synthesizers and virtual instruments (I loved on the BOSS BR-8 being able to record bass tracks using my guitar or keyboard). I want to be able to "do it all" with just a guitar, keyboard and computer. I know there are limitations, but I am willing to compromise some quality for portability and compactness. I was thinking of buying an M-Audio Ozone and software like Reason or Cubase, or Logic. However, I am also very new, so I do not want to buy software that will take me months to figure out. Is there anything for me????? PLEASE HELP. THANKS SO MUCH

Bryan

Have you checked out the Mbox?

ProTools is a powerful app, but it's not hard to learn the basics.

I checked out the Mbox, but I didn't like the proprietary aspects of Pro Tools and Mbox. You cannot use pro tools without the specific hardware (like Mbox) attached to your computer, and I need to be able to do post-production on the computer without having hardware plugged in all the time. I am thinking more along the lines of buying M-Audio's Ozone, a midi keyboard and audio interface all-in-one, because I want to be able to record my guitar as much as possible, as well as using the keyboard. My concern lies more with the software. I have taken a liking to what I have read about Reason. But I don't want to buy anything yet without hearing form people who know what they're talking about, and know my situation. If I were to go with M-Audio's Ozone and software like Reason or Cubase SL, I could stay under $450 thru academic pricing (Im a college student). I found the Ozone for $299 and Reason for $219.
