So I'm trying to decide between a Vintech dual 72 pre amp and a Universal Audio LA-610. The UA is a bit more expensive, as it should be with the bells and whistles. I'm looking for a vintage sound here. I'd make a pros and cons list, but I'd like to hear from folks who have used them both. What should I do here???

I've tried the UA before with the Shure SM57 for vocals and loved it. (haven't tried Vintech)
The manager at this Guitar Center said "the 57 isn't a good vocal mic"-until he heard how good that chain sounds on me.

It was fun also to turn the dial past the sweet spot into tube overdose!

This is a "high level" gear question, IMHO you'd be better off posting in the high end forum
over at www.gearslutz.com Maybe someone like Fletcher, or Warren Dent (Warhead) who
has superior advice than yours truly will help you.

BTW how about getting a UA 610 Solo instead for less $$. Do you have a compressor already? If you don't check into the Art Pro VLA or Joe Meek stuff too.

FWIW my favorite cheap seats vintage chain is EV 635a>Bellari MP105.
I may go back to GC with the 635a to try the UA out again out of curiosity.
