will old vintage mikes like telefunken, neumann, work ok with newer technology (phantom power). i have a firewire mixer and was wondering if these mics will be compatible at all. if not i am looking for a mic to record my guitar amp. i prefer vintage tone, not to polished, nice and smooth. any recomendations????

Vintage Dynamics

Hi,

Good vintage mics on a guitar cabinet.

AKG D310
EV 635a
EV RE10, RE11, RE15, RE16
Shure 545
Shure SM56

None of these mics are as expensive as the ones you listed. None require phantom power.

Thanks,

Hairy Larry

any condenser mic should be able to run on any 48v phantom power supply

Unless it's old enough to require a separate power supply (like a Neumann-Gefell MV691 or 692) and hasn't been converted to XLR P-48. Or is a tube mic that requires a separate power supply as most won't run off of phantom power (with few exceptions).
