I want to use two monitors.. a 21" and a17" I own.

Will progs like cubase take advantage of this? In my mind I could have the standard stuff on the 21" and plug ins etc on the 17".

Is this possible?

can you recommend a video card?

Could you describe how to setup 2 monitors with 2 video cards in Win 98?

Thanks

1.)Sure......put the second video card in. Turn your machine on. The widows installer will come up. (it automatically detects your new hardware). After the computer finishes installing your new card Reboot.

2.) Go into control panel ----> display----> Appearance (I think..) follow instructions

-- search the windows help file for dual monitor support if you have trouble.

Let me make sure I got this right. First you turn on machine then you ... wait ...no ... you said first insert new card, then turn on machine. I think I can do that :). Thanks

Are you sure that a dual head GFX card won't work? Sounds odd that you must have two cards. Haven't tried though.

Funny.....................Personally I have never seen a video card with two monitor outs on it. Sounds cool

If you already have one video card you can simply buy a new one for $50.00 .. Unless you need a top of the line model

You can get a great and functional dual card for about $60, and save yourself from having to use the pci bus/slot for video. Check the Prorec roll-your-own, they use one thats nice and cheap, and then check pricewatch.com for the current best price.
Using 2 video cards is nuts, IMO. Can you drag stuff from one screen to the other still?

I can drag with ease.....it really works fine. I have a full size tower with 2 video cards, 1 sound card with a synth expansion board, 4 hardrives (40gigs each/7200 rpms) CDRW and a DVD player. Ihave 512mb ram and a PIII 450mhz. The machine is set up strictly for audio. + one network card... Its a beast. (I use Sonar, Acid and Band in a Box)
I also have a couple of patch librarians running on it.

Oh yeah I have 2 network cards (1 for the cable modem and the other routed to a hub then to a Compuer with a PIV 1.8ghz, 512mbs ram, 40 gig hard drive and CDRW. Its a mini network. I use the PIII for basic tracking then the PIV for destructive editing and mastering......

There are a few video cards on the market with two ports. Matrox makes one... can't remember the name, but it was recently reviewed in Maximum PC mag if that helps.

Try the Matrox G400 or G450 dual head card. They allows for two monitors to be used. I use the G400, which is a 16mb card. I love it, though it was weird at first getting used to the cursor conitinuing off the side of one monitor into the other. Great for multimedia applications (like cubase) that have a lot of windows, or if you want to use one monitor as a zoom window.

I use both monitors with Sonar....One for the console view and the other for track view.....I hate the fact that my desk at work has only one monitor!!!!!! i can't deal......even if I'm online its nice having Kazaa open on one monitor downloading stuff while Bs'ing here!!!!!

I also suggest the Matrox, a local pride. It works fine for me. You can probably find it for 80-90$.

I was eying GFX card with one monitor and one TV out a while back. My computer doesn't have an AGP port so I couldn't use it. It would be nice though as I'm planning on having the TV room and studio combined.

The Matrox cards are ideal for the types of applications we use. They are pretty much the standard on custom built audio PCs.
