Not sure where to post this.......Hope it fits.

I have Sony DCR-VX2100 cameras, and wanted to use them for video feed to a mixer for live fading/mixing of music performances.........

My problem is with the cameras themselves...... They have a stinking "demo mode" built in that is a factory default set to "standby" mode..... Example: If I want to mount a camera high, say a ceiling mount for overhead shots, I need to remotely "cut" the power for on/off operation (I can't very well climb a ladder each time I want to turn the camera on). However, the camera will "reset" to factory defaults every time I turn it off by cutting the power remotely......If I turn it on and off using the thumb-switch on the back of the camera, it will stay "off". SOooooooo, I can't use this model for anything other than hands on locations. Bummer, since my best shots come from overhead considering my studio set-up.

I need some experienced input on good cameras (camcorders) that will NOT give me this kind of grief when using them in a "constant-on" setting..... I'm basically using them as live TV production cameras on a budget, and can't have some goofy demo kick in every time the power is cut.

HELP........... Need some suggestions. Ready to pull my hair out. :cursing: I don't have big bucks for Pro TV cameras right now.............need the best low budget solution.

Thanks for any input................... :D Doc

A quick google search and I found that if you put a tape in the camera it will not go into demo mode. There is also a setting somewhere in the menu to turn the demo mode off.

does that help? Or maybe I'm not understanding your problem.

The tape camcorders I've used turn off after five minutes or so to save the head when there's a tape loaded. That may reset some controls to the default values.

For live feed, you have to use it without a tape to avoid going into standby. When you use it without a tape, demo mode kicks in. If I turn it on manually, I can just turn off the demo mode. BUT, if I leave the camera "on" and turn it off remotely by switching the A/C power (which we have to do with a ceiling mounted camera), it resets to it's factory pre-sets, which include the goffy "demo-mode" again.

I need different cameras.
