Just recently bought the Fostex 8051 punch/out pedal. Absolutely fantastic. Works like a charm, and NO clicks, pops or whatever in use. Totally seamless operation. This is going to save me oodles of time and frustration when I want to change a piece of a track.

punching

Bill, I'm glad to hear it. I confess I'm scared of this punching business (as I am of everything else on my VF 80. Want to give me an online or telephonic tutorial? I'll pay you for an hour or two of your time if I can afford you). How can it possibly work? If you muff a guitar lick in track 3, you can redo the whole track. That I understand. But if you, say, sing the wrong word in verse 3 of a song, you can punch in the right word and it comes out in precisely the place you want it? It's a wonderful idea, and I'm glad it works for you. Give me details!

It's not quite like that... Here's how it works. You make a mistake on track 3. You arm track 3 by hitting the button on top of the fader for 3. Then you hit PLAY. NOT RECORD! The song is then playing in your headphones, or whatever... When you reach the point just prior to the mistake, you step on the pedal. This changes track 3 to RECORD mode. Re-sing the mistake. Hit the pedal again as soon as you finish your new vocal and track 3 returns to PLAY mode. So anything after your redone section is left as it was. Obviously if you do not hit the pedal after you're finished the fix, then the whole rest of the track is recorded over. So you have to be on your toes!

Actually, the one who really knows the VF80 is Garry Sharp in the UK. He's on this board now and again...

Hiya Bill. I'm actually on this board more often than I should be for the state of my business - just don't post unless I think I have something to add. Which I don't in this case, ('cos you described it perfectly) except to say that any old footswitch seems to work; I use a cheap Yamaha one which came as a bass drum footswitch for their cheapo DD55 drumpad set.

When are you going to post a commercial or two?

Best wishes

Garry

I'll post when I know how...

Hey Garry! Is there a link on this board showing how to post? I've got a few things I could put up -- for mass derision no doubt! Anyway, I'd be happy to give it a go.

Bill, it's pretty straightforward. Take the audio CD you've made on the VF, put it in your PC and use a CD ripper to extract the audio tracks and convert them to MP3 files (I use a free downloadable programme called CDex to do this, a Google search will find the site whose address I can't find at the moment, but there are plenty of others.)

Then you go to the ubiquitous NowhereRadio.com, register as an artist, follow the straightforward instructions about uploading MP3's, and you're all set.

Have fun

Garry

I'll try this in the next few days...

on second thought...

Hi Garry,

I hate my PC. Send me your address if you want and I'll airmail you a CD. I don't want my babies converted to MP3.

Bill - that's understood, and thanks for the pm. No need to go to the trouble of mailing. :)
